A group of friends passing through are stalked and hunted down by a deformed killer with a chainsaw in order to sustain his poor family who can only afford to eat what they kill.
Like most people, when this film first came out, I was very excited. I was finally going to get to see Leatherface rip it up on the big screen. I was just hopeful that this film would be better than The Next Generation (although I didn't hate it as bad as most people). Now, the first thing I noticed about this film is that it was alot more fast paced than the previous films. I think the only one that came close to the remake, was the 3rd film, LEATHERFACE: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This film had some central elements that were similar to the original, but were done a bit different. I guess mainly because it's more up to date in it's quality. We do however keep the young, pretty girls, as well as their boyfriends. And of course, there's still that one guy that's just tagging along, alas Franklin from the original.
Now, one thing I loved about this film, was the new family. Sheriff Hoyt is probably one of the most popular modern horror characters next to Captain Spaulding from House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. We also have Leatherface, who is bigger and badder than ever. The tea lady, who isn't in the film much, is just cool because she's 900 pounds and so nice, that it's sadistic. Monty was hilarious in the film, as was Luda May. Now the little boy Jedidiah, to me, was annoying as hell. I hated the character, and I just wished the worse for him in the film. If I didn't like the rest of the film and it's characters so much, his little buck tooth ass would have probably ruined the entire movie for me. I also did think it was extremely cool that the same narrator from the original, John Larroquette, was also the narrator in the remake. Some of you may know him as Lawrence van Dough from the Richie Rich film with McCauley Culkin.
The storyline of the film, as I mentioned earlier, was similar to the original, but not a shot for shot remake. The family is different, the victims are different (for the most part), the deaths are different, and the pace of the film is different. Now as I said, the original film was fast, but this one was faster. And unlike the second TCM, Leatherface showed no remorse in this one. Although, we do see him feel pain for the first time in a long while (as far as I can remember.) The setting in this one is also alot better. The house is eerie, but it's surroundings really make it what it is. You can tell it's hot as hell, dry as hell, etc. Gotta love that Texas weather huh? Anyways, as I was saying. This is a pretty well rounded film, considering alot of people said it would suck.
The bottom line is, this is a good movie. I don't see any reason why someone wouldn't at least find this film watchable. Most everyone I know loved it. Even some die hard fans of the original, enjoyed the remake. Now, I won't take it to the extreme that some people do, and say it's the greatest horror film I've ever seen. But I would definately recommend watching, and buying this film. Whatever you have to do to see it, do it. I'll give this film a 9/10.

Okay, I know the remake has a lot of fans here, but honestly it did not match up to the first 3 in the original series for me. It was an OK slasher, but that does not match up to the horror or originality of the original. Not a strong enough script, and not skilled enough direction. There were some "ugh" bits (unspirited exposition, the weird "mercy killing"), as well as some parts that simply could have been done better. 6/10 in my opinion.
âThe Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audienceâs deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... Iâd better stop before I give myself nightmaresâ

Well the review is actually up now. It's a bit sloppy, but it gets the point across...

As I stated in a previous post too, I did not like it at all but it's one of the better remakes out there.

She came across as too "tough," too clear-cut a heroine; it's less scary when the main character isn't bringing the sheer-terror and helplessness such a situation could bring out in most...

I thought her performance was good. She either had to fight, or die. Just running around hoping to find someone to help her wasn't going to work. It was dark, and she needed to find her own way out.

It was dark, and she needed to find her own way out. One of the best things about the original for me was for Sally it was either RUN or die. Though he may not have been as outright brutal in the old one, Leather seemed a lot more dangerous since there was no "fighting" him. He seemed more a horror movie "monster" to be escaped by the skin of your teeth than a "villain" to be triumphantly defeated.
