BojanglesWill 'Saw VII 3D' Carry the Moniker 'Endgame' & Conclude the Franchise?
#1
Thanks to BloodyDisgusting.com for this bit of news:

While Lionsgate, Twisted Pictures and all the various people being the Saw franchise have confirmed plans for an eight film, a new interview with screenwriter Patrick Melton (Saw IV-VII) reveals that due to the lackluster numbers Saw VII 3D could be the end of Jigsaw -- and retitled to carry the moniker "Endgame". Did Paranormal Activity literally kill Jigsaw? Only time will tell. Read on for the story and talk below.

"I mean, I think it's going to end with Saw VII," Melton tells Latino Review "I have a very strong feeling its going to end with Saw VII. That's something we're debating now. You saw in previous interviews or discussions where we thought Saw VIII would be the last one where we had the first trilogy and the second trilogy and then sort of a grand finale wrapped up in two films. But frankly because Saw VI hasn't performed as well as we anticipated, the idea is well why make two movies when we can make one really excellent movie that wraps up as best we can? And it's going to be in 3-D which sort of adds to the spectacle. So if you had to ask me, I don't own the franchise, nor do I run the studio, but I have a feeling, a strong feeling that it's going to be Saw VII which will be also known as Endgame. And nothing's official yet, but that's where we're hoping things will go."

While I love Saw, the entire series, I was kind of surprised to see them come out with VI. Every year they draw big numbers, but--as mentioned--VI just didn't. I'm not sure about this new 3D trend either. I think this ought to be the end, and I hope that the 3D effect is done well and not just slapped on to fill seats. I hate to see a good series go down in flames.

You know even tho i am more of a traditional style fan of horror movies, SAW did catch my eye when it first came out on the scene. I really appreciated the fact that it stayed true to its story thru out the francise. So many classic francises have gotten in my opinion ruined because they tended to steer clear of the original story etc. Or just plain made a specticle of the killers character. So i hope when they do wrap it up they do it in a way loyal fans will appreciate.

I love the SAW series - I love the twists and turns, and the elongated story. However, there is such thing as "too much of a good thing" and with this series hopping on the 3D bandwagon (really...wtf?) I think it's time to wrap it up. I bet the ending will be one to remember.

The only reason this really happening is cuz of that bs movie PA. I love the saw franchise and I'm not ready to see it in 3D or see it come to an end.

me too..
but it was bound to happen sooner or later, and it's probably for the best. A continuity heavy franchise like this should only really go on for so long. Just like Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare was the final movie in the franchise and Just like Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday was the final movie in that franchise. What they really mean is that it will be the final movie in the franchise unless they can think up another way to milk more money out of the franchise.

I personally think they should end it here so things don't go on so long it's weird, but I also definitely think the Saw series is a brilliant grounds for a "Star Wars Expanded Universe" type thing where we find a bunch of new apprentices, people we didn't know survived (The return... of both Jeffs!), possibly continuing adventures of old characters (provided Jill or Hoffman survive)...
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”

The final nightmare and jason goes to hell weren't the last movies in the franchise tho. They made wes cravens final nightmare and jasonX and freddy vs jason plus the remakes. Those are all part of the franchises.

At the moment, from what I know by now, Jill and Hoffman both failed. Jill tried to kill Hoffman without giving him a fair opportunity, which was for sure not John's last will. He would never tell anyone to make a game that is impossible to win or achieve. And Hoffman, well I don't think I have to explain why he's a terrible "apprentice".Maybe Saw VII will teach us different, but that's what I see and view at the moment. Everybody involved failed and let John down in the end: Amanda freaked out, Hoffman never really cared and Jill used John's last will for her own.

I think jill did what he john wanted. Hoffmans game is probably linked to the familys game cuz jill stayed there with hoffman until the dad was killed with the acid then left. If the family chose to fogive him then hoffman might have been released

Nicely put. I couldn't have said it better myself. Smile
