Sony Pictures is developing a CG Popeye feature to be released in 3D. Avi Arad is producing and Mike Jones is in negotiations to write the script. The storyline is being kept under wraps, but Popeye's love interest Olive Oyl, nemesis Bluto and adopted child Swee'Pea will be part of the adventure, says Variety.Arad says the new version will cover the themes of friendship, love, greed and life, and focus on human strengths and human frailties.Popeye will be made by Sony Pictures Animation, with Sony Pictures Imageworks handling the CG. The companies are currently working on The Smurfs, coming to theaters on August 3, 2011.Created by E.C. Segar, Popeye first appeared in the already established "Thimble Theater" comic strip in 1929. Introduced as a walk-on character, Popeye eventually became the strip's star.

 wh...what?
okay granted I'm one of a select few who LIKED the original Popeye movie with Robin Williams.

but this...?

I'll try to keep an open mind but unlike the Addams family - this - this film just seems like an abuse of the technology.

What are they going to do? Overthrow a punch during a fight scene to *sucker-sock* the audiance?

When I saw Piranaha the other day, my local movie theater had a huge 3D promo for Jackass the movie in 3D. Does that mean they're rereleasing it in 3D, or is it Jackass 3 in 3D???

He's got a point. Screw the Smurfs movie. Hollywood needs to stop ruinning cartoon classics by turning them into live action movies. Scooby doo, Garfield, Alvin and The Chipmunks, Yogi Bear, The Smurfs, and Bugs Bunny. All ruined by live action/CGI crap.
