Police say that two kittens were run over by a truck in a case of animal cruelty.
On Oct. 17, Chester, Pa., police officers responded to a call for a suspicious condition at a Delaware County apartment.
They were met by three visibly distraught women. They claimed that their roommate, Francis McGinley, had drunkenly arrived home with two injured kittens.
When one of the women asked what he was doing with the cats, they claim that McGinley responded by saying, âI ran them over with my truck so I could eat them for dinner.â
When the women questioned him further, he allegedly said, âI ran these two cats over with my truck, and now theyâre my dinner. Iâm going to eat them.â
According to investigators, once the officers confronted him, a clearly intoxicated McGinley asked âSince when was it a crime to get drunk, officer?â
McGinley, 44, was then taken into custody while the kittens, named Karma and Nirvana, were taken by Animal Control Officer Dave Schlott to the Keystone Veterinary Emergency, where they are being cared for. They are expected to make a full recovery.
According to the Delco County Times, McGinley was arraigned on charges of cruelty to animals, public drunkenness, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and harassment.
McGinley has also been arrested multiple times for public drunkenness, being âmanifestly under the influence of alcohol,â driving under the influence, disorderly conduct and harassment, according to court records.
He was released from custody after posting 10 percent of $20,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 27.
