Creamy GoodnessWriting competitions?
#1
There's been pretty lengthy discussions of writing and sharing stories we've written in the chatbox in the last day or two, so it got me thinking. On the previous forum I was on (in addition to most of the new members that just signed up here), we tried having writing contests. You pick a word count, subject, maybe an object, a theme, and a deadline. When I ran it, the plan was to have broad guidelines at first and make them more complicated as the contests progressed. But it never got that far. We didn't have enough people participating and there were never any prizes. I also had plans to change genres, but that never materialized either.

So would there be any interest for that here? There are more active members here and several people seem to write frequently. Any takers? Any interest? Who would you want to run it? Ask questions and comment away. If we did this, I think we'd have to have at least ten people want to participate to make the contest any good. We might also need a panel of judges so the responsibility doesn't fall on one person to pick a winner. Thoughts?

I'm in!

As far as details go. They're going to take some thought. Preferably by people far more organized than myself. Though I do love my own opinion and will therefore probably share it once I have formed one. Wink

I think it sounds like a lot of fun, Mr. Goodness.

I'd enter - even if just to keep doing so to challenge my creative process or until I win one of them Smile

I think that was Mike's way of saying that he too would like to participate in any future writing competitions. LOL

You know I don't participate but I do like to see the submissions so I wouldn't mind judging if you need help with that sometime.

This sounds like it could be loads of fun. We had such a thing on the small board I used to run and the winner was determined by a vote of the other members. Don't know if that is anything to consider here.

We had a few different people run it on the last forum. When I did it, the plan was to have a panel of three judges decide on a winner and then the next month have it be decided by the rest of the forum members voting on it. I think it got cancelled before we actually did the voting since we only had one entry (mine) and nobody else had time for it. But the original plan was switch off every month, judges one month and voting the next.

So far I count three definite entries, one maybe (I never really know with Fish), and one judge. I'd enter and/or be a judge if we were short on that. So I'd like to see at least another five to six people say that they were interested in entering and at least one more person want to be a judge; two preferably. If we can get that, I'd like to start our first competition on August 1st and have it run the entire month with the results being posted August 31st.

One other thing, is everyone cool with judges picking a winner? Or would you prefer if other people on the forum voted for their favorite entry? Better yet, just vote in the damn poll. PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASE!

Why aren't Freddy, Briggs, and Bo getting on board for this?

Cory hasn't been on for a few days. I'll ask them about it the next time I see them.
