About
Five friends go up to a cabin in the woods where they find
unspeakable evil lurking in the forest.
They find the Necronomicon and the taped translation of the text.
Once the tape is played, the evil is released.
One by one, the teens become deadly zombies.
With only one remaining,
it is up to him to survive the night and battle the evil dead.

This is probably one of the scariest movies I've seen, though it wasn't as consistant as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Not a huge fan of "sequel was better 'cause it was funny", IMO this is an absolute horror classic for good reason.

Shamefully I don't own it, but I do believe there is a better one out with a better transfer and extras. Check out the 3-disk (I think) Anchor Bay version.

Yes, the real one! I think the funny remake you're thinking of is actually Evil Dead 2 (Or maybe Army of Darkness?)

Dude, the sequels were GENIOUS!!!!!! The first time Horror and Comedy truly mixed!!!!! In my humble opinion at least.
