Funny Games Not So Funny To Me
#1
I saw the US version of this movie a few days ago, and it disturbed me, mostly because of the fact that the baddies kill a young kid in the movie. Does this bother anyone else when they see a flic, or is it just me cause I have a kid?????

I wasn't bothered by the kid dying. I was quite surprised, honestly, but I wasn't bothered by it. I enjoyed Funny Games, but some things annoyed me. I took it to one of my buddies houses and I sold him on watching it. He lasted maybe 15 minutes before I had to take it out. He couldn't stand that one killers eyebrows and he was just generally annoyed by them. He basically said those guys were way too wimpy to actually pose a threat to the family.

To be honest, I hate when kids die in movies too.
I mean sometimes it's funny but... Sometimes it's awful.
Like in Planet Terror when the doctors wife's son, blows his own brains out
on accident... Yea that was kinda sad...

It's sad indeed, but if done right it takes balls (When they don't do it just to be "xtreme" that is). I loved the original Funny Games, truly chilling... Have yet to see the US version.
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”

Thank for the response to the question, and very good points. Now, do any of you have kids? When I was young, a favorite thing to say was I needed my 9 iron, cause I was gonna go hit some balls on the back nine, which is covered with the corpses of puppies and little girls in sailor outfits. That always got a reaction, hehe, but I honestly cannot think that way anymore without feeling just a bit of dread for my own kiddie.

Oh, and Bo, I thought the two crazy guys were awesome in that movie! Great bad guys. They just radiated madness.

And Briggsy. The US version was shot EXACTLY, frame by frame, line by line, shot by shot, like the original. Cool huh?

And then again, if they didn't do it to be "Xtreme", what was the function of it in the film? I'm in no way disagreeing with you, but just curious about your answer.

And I could have the balls to kill cute little itiy bity kittens in movies, but I don't see the point, though it wouldn't make me uncomfortable. Must be the whole parent thing I guess. Yep.

I know whatya mean man...
I mean you are a dad.
And to be honest, sometimes I take offense too...
I mean I LOVE kids! I have 2 baby cousins, I would die for!
So don't worry man, I understand.
It can be pretty offensive... when taken to far!

Hey, 1400 post Friday. Sweeeeeeeet. I am not offended, it just sets my teeth on edge. I like media that makes me feel things, but this subject is something that gives me a feeling I don't like. I like to be disgusted, frightened, repulsed, saddened, joyous, and all those other emotions, but setting off my paternal instinct is one I don't dig. Oh wellSmile

But it wasn't taken too far. You don't see the kid get killed, and you barely see the body. It's not badly done, just makes me think, "What if it was my kid"?

Those dudes would have soooooooo died a lot quicker. You think they are crazy? FUCK WITH MY KID and then you'll see crazy!!!!!!!:jj:

I was sickened when they blew the little boy's head off in the original version, but I wasn't offended. It fit with the demented nature of the characters and was essential for Haneke to deliver his message. I had no interest, though, in seeing the American version. There is no way I am putting myself through that one again.

sometimes what hit closest to home in horror films is because if some shared connection

I have the first name Carrie...I live(d) in Louisiana...

and yet I have the occasional @##$%^& ask if I can play dueling banjos or plan to preform voodoo.

I agree with this statement, the kid getting shot was implied. Actually, I was lost for a few minutes as to who was shot, the kid or dad. U see the mom @ the window but no one is sobbing or moaning...nothing. When the dad moved, I was SO pissed! I wanted to shoot him for being such a pussy. Broken leg or not, a parent/ spouse would defend. What a loser!

And why was she trying to help him off the floor? To walk? Fuckin where?! Go get help idiot! Ur pussy husband isn't helping.

This movie pissed me off lol
But it was an ok film.
