Do you think Rob Zombie's Halloween remakes are better than the originals?

Halloween 2 - H2 (2009) - Behind The Scenes With Rob Zombie

Go 25 seconds into the video. I can't speak for his remake of Halloween 2, but I do know his remake of the first Halloween was not as good as the original.

I didnt think his remake of the original is even in the same ballpark as John Carpenter's original. But, with that being said I did not think that the remake was a terrible movie. I found it as an interesting re-imagining of Michael Myers, his childhood and a deeper look into his psyche. I think that the scenes of him as a kid in the psychiatric hospital were a little long for my liking and got a little boring. I just saw that new trailer for the second one and even though I was not at all impressed with the first trailer, I have to say that this one did grab me more.

I'm hoping that the second one is a better movie. My favorite scene from the trailers has to be when he is looking up at the helicopters. Half of his mask being ripped off looks stupid, though.

I remember seeing the first trailer a little while ago and while I did want to see the movie from the moment I heard about it, the first trailer didn't really get me excited about it.

I really enjoyed the first movie, I guess it's a matter of taste, but I do like Rob Zombie's work, I'm not a big fan of the "shiny" look newer horror movies have. Not sure how to explain it. Rob Zombie's movies have a more old school vibe to them. One thing I did really like about the first one was the kid who played young michael myers. The kid was good. Tyler Mane also has a lot of presence on film.

This trailer for h2 made me want to see it more, I'm actually excited to see it now. I'm looking forward to seeing Malcom McDowell again too, he's no Donald Pleasence, but I honestly could not think of any other actor to put in that role. I hadn't really liked McDowell in a movie since Clockwork Orange.

I don't look at Rob Zombie's movies as remakes, I'm not sure what I'd call them. They're by no mean better than the originals, but at the same time they're very different, I feel like I'm trying to compare apples and oranges.

Personally I do like Rob Zombie, but I hate his Remake of Halloween.
It kinda ruined things for me, his twist on the film killed it.
It will NEVER be better then the original NEVER!
Don't get me wrong I LOVE The Devil's Rejects, but I hate his take on Halloween!

EDIT: The only films to have been better then the original are - Friday The 13 Remake, and The TCM Remake.

aHA! You and me both, sister! I really, really think the "digital film look" and the tinted interlay are some of the most awful additions to horror out there. They work for films like the Saw series or 1408, but usually it just looks dumb and unnecessary, which sucks because they have something like it in almost every movie nowadays (Making reg.-film movies look cheap Sad ).

I liked the Halloween remake myself as it's own entity (a bit moreso than the TCM remake as it's own entity) even though it doesn't do justice to the original. It has a more documentary "...and this happened one night" sort of feel to it that I started to appreciate when I saw the trailer for H2.
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”

I have hopes for H2, but when I see Michael Myers lifting up a car and shoving it over I can't help but laugh. He said he wanted this one to be more realistic yet he has Michael Myers lifting up a car. How mentally handicap is that? Laughing-satan

I don't like Rob Zombie's Halloween at all.
He somehow changed Michael too much and that's his biggest mistake.
And I wouldn't call it remake. It's so much more a Zombie's view of what have happen. But that's just my opinion... Big Grin

I thought he did a good job remaking the first Halloween but it can't really be put in the same category as the original. They will never be better than the originals, especially the second Halloween movie he made. That one almost put me to sleep. I did like that he went more into depth when Michael Myers was a child but like another person said those scenes lasted a little longer than I wanted them to.

I just watched the original Halloween and Rob Zombie's Halloween back to back (doing research for my upcoming movie) and I gotta tell ya, Rob Zombie's Halloween was okay, but I had a ton of issues with it.

My biggest one was lighting. There is a HUGE difference between MOOD lighting and NOT lighting.

Turn a friggin light on, Rob.

All I can say is that at least the remake of the first Halloween was watchable. I mean, the Halloween II remake that he shat out was just a fuckin' joke.
