When Norman Bates, dressed as his mother, ripped open Janet Leigh's shower curtain and knifed her to death in "Psycho," horror movies changed. Along with Leigh's blood, classic horror style and romantic figures like Frankenstein and Dracula went right down the shower drain. The veiled sexuality and hidden violence that dominated most classic horror films suddenly were gleefully dragged into the open, for everyone to exploit. For better or worse, style often became as important as substance, and booming box-office numbers proved that horror was serious business. The shifting times created opportunities for filmmakers to innovate, finding new and terrifying ways to scare the pants off audiences.

The mark of a great horror film is whether it sustains its vision of terror through several generations of increasingly desensitized viewers. Does the movie still make you jump or squirm or sweat or scream? The following efforts do all of the above.
Puts Freddy vs. Jason on the "good" list when the original Friday the 13th is put on the "worst" list (bad mark put back on).
Plot: (from Yahoo movies) :

This horror comedy proves that fast food can be deadly to more than just a healthy lifestyle. Hella-Burger's creepy mascot, Horny the Clown, likes his burgers rare--and bloody. The masked maniac goes on a rampage through the sleepy town of Blanca Carne, brandishing a meat cleaver, an ax, and a deep fryer to dispatch his fast-food-craving victims. Only cute high school student Mackenzie Carpenter (Leighton Meester, 24) has the power to stop him as she realizes the reason for Horny's violence. SUPER SIZE ME director Morgan Spurlock costars.

Cast:

Leighton Meester ... Mackenzie Carpenter

Nicholas D'Agosto ... Fisher Kent

Melora Hardin ... Marcia Carpenter

Lola Glaudini ... Detective Brenda Chase

Larry Joe Campbell ... Detective Dwayne Crockers

Van De La Plante ... Horny the Clown / Archie Benjamin

Penn Badgley ... Van

Sita Young ... Val Espinoza

Rachael Bella ... Starfire

John Gilbert ... Jack Benjamin
Morgan Spurlock ... Robbie, The Hella-Burger Manager

Edward DeRuiter ... Brandon Meeks

Haven Lamoureux ... Tony

Paul Ganus ... Bill Carpenter

Robert Curtis Brown ... Bert McCandless

A lot of people don't like this movie, but I actually enjoyed it. It's my guilty pleasure movie. What's not to love about a deranged Ronald McDonald with a hatchet and a grudge? Sure, it's a worn out topic: "they were mean to me when I was a kid/teenager. Now it's payback time!" but this time, they took our nation's giant, the fast food industry, and made it deadly. You don't go to camp every day. You don't vacation every day. You don't visit your old boarding school every day. But you DO see fast food every day! Health campaigns always warn you about the dangers of fast food..eating it, that is! But this movie even makes the mascot deadly. They could have shipped the kids off on a cruise and had Archie disguise himself as a janitor and slice them off. But they didn't. Instead, they used something that is a part of everybody's every day, normal life: fast food. In the words of Horny the Clown: "Fast food kills, fucker!"

The humor was also pretty sweet. I love the stereotypes. Those white "gangstas" that screech about daddy's money at the first sign of trouble, the preps and jocks, and the pot heads. And let's not forget Sargent Crackers passed out with a half eaten burger. That's exactly what the health ads warn you about! And everyone enjoys political jokes. Plently of those in there! Keep an eye out for clever puns!

The movie also delivers the red stuff, so the gore hounds are left happy.

Rating: 9/10.

Let the flaming begin!! *hides*

Plot:

The atheistic Katherine Winter is a former Catholic missionary that lost her faith on God after losing her daughter and her husband in Sudan, sacrificed by the locals that blamed them for the long drought. Presently she investigates religious phenomena with the intent of debunking them, finding a scientific cause for the event. She is invited to go to the small town of Haven, in Louisiana, where the river turned into blood after the death of a boy. After her arrival, each of one of the ten biblical plagues happens in the location dazing Katherine, who discloses the evil secret of the dwellers. In the room of Father Costigan puts together several photos that have been burned in strange ways. He finds they form a pattern of an upside down sickle with a cross through it. The symbol is the inverted astrological symbol for Ceres, which is believed to be a Satanic symbol. Elsewhere, Katherine Winter and her colleague Ben are in Chile investigating claims of a miracle. Upon exploring the area, Katherine uncovers a cache of hazardous waste illegally stashed in an underground oil well, which has ruptured and is causing the effects of the "miracle".Back at her office in Louisiana, Katherine receives a call from Costigan, who explains the symbol and warns her that the burned photographs he arranged were of her and that it is a warning from God, which Katherine ignores. Later, Doug, a science teacher from a nearby town called Haven, asks Katherine to help find a reason for a local river in the town turning red. The locals believe this a plague caused by a girl, Loren McConnell, who they believe killed her older brother in the river. Katherine and Ben travel to Haven and examine the river. While there, Katherine meets Loren and has a vision of Loren turning the river red. Meanwhile, Ben witnesses dead frogs seemingly fall from the sky. Doug invites them to spend the night at his house, since the town has no motel. That evening they encounter flies suddenly eating their dinner, and disease, which kills off all of a local man's cows.Later that night, Katherine finds Doug outside at his wife's grave. The two then talk about their deceased loved ones. 5 years ago, Katherine was an ordained minister. At Father Costigan's request, she takes her husband and daughter with her to do missionary work in the Sudan. After a year long drought, the locals sacrificed Katherine's family believing they were the cause. This destroys her sense of faith and she leaves the Church. Katherine and Doug depart back to the house and later, Katherine dreams images of her in bed with Doug and several other things including her own past and Loren. In the morning she goes to the McConnells' house alone, where she finds the cult symbol on a door. She meets Loren again and, upon trying to help her, sees a series of visions that seem to show Loren killing her brother. When the vision ends, Katherine wanders though the house and meets Loren's mother who is then attacked by Loren. Katherine leaves at the demand of Loren's mother. In town, Ben, Doug, and Katherine receive the test results from the river which is proven to be human blood. The citizens, meanwhile, are shaving the heads of all their children due to a mass outbreak of lice. Ben and Doug try to get the mayor to evacuate the town, but he and his staff are found struck down with boils. The town then forms a mob, ready to kill Loren themselves. Reluctantly, Katherine calls Father Costigan, who explains the cult sacrifices every second born in an attempt to create "a perfect child" with "the eyes of the Devil" to bring them power. He also states that an angel, who cannot be harmed by the cult, will appear to destroy them. He insists that Loren is that child and the plagues may be a trick of Satan's to protect her. He also tries to convince Katherine that she is the angel sent forth by God to kill Loren. Suddenly, a supernatural force begins to burn everything in Costigan's room, trapping him inside and killing him. Desperate, Katherine goes to the McConnell house where she finds the cult's sacrificial chamber in the basement. She finds Loren's mother who says that Loren is being controlled; Loren's mother then pulls out a gun and kills herself. Katherine grabs a knife nearby and proceeds outside where the sheriff and several others, including Ben and Doug, gather around the house preparing to kill Loren. Suddenly, thousands of locusts appear and swarm a local, his son, and the sheriff, killing them. Doug runs away and jumps in the blood river, Katherine locks herself inside the house, and Ben hides in a crypt, where he discovers skeletons and bodies of sacrificed children. He calls Katherine to tell her where he is and while talking to her, Loren appears outside.Katherine hurries after Ben but arrives to find him dead. She confronts Loren as darkness falls and fireballs shoot from the sky. Katherine attacks and is about to kill Loren when they share another vision. The cult, along with Doug, are shown trying to kill Loren, who was a second-born child. Loren escaped and her brother Brody stabbed her, but her wound miraculously healed, and Brody died. Katherine realizes that Loren is innocent and that Loren is the angel that God sent, not herself. The townsfolk appear and surround the two of them as Doug tells her that God is protecting Loren, and only an ordained servant of God like Katherine can kill her. He explains that they invited Katherine to investigate the plagues because they hoped she would join them, since she had turned her back on God like they did. Katherine refuses, while reminding them that they had sacrificed generations of second-born children leaving a town of only first-borns. Suddenly the fire begins raining down on the townsfolk, killing them. Doug tries to use Katherine as a shield against the fire, but is ultimately killed.Later, Katherine and Loren are driving away together and Loren discloses to Katherine that she is pregnant and can "hear" her son inside her. Katherine is stunned by this knowledge as this is her second child, which triggers a flashback in which she remembers the night she was with Doug. Katherine then realizes that her son is the prophesied demonic child.
Locust swarm. Rivers turn to blood. Fire rains from the sky .Are you prepared fro the reaping?..lol.. "This is a terrific horror-thriller that will keep you on the age of your seat" - this was said by Shawn Edwards of Fox -TV when he watched it on its premier. Investigate scholar Katherine Winter is debunker of modern miracles , bringing scientific light to superstition and fraud .But events in tiny Haven, Louisiana defy even her expertise. There, the 10 Biblical plagues seem to be recurring. And the more she seek answers , the more she quesyions her own beliefs. Katherine must uncover the truth , because the plagues are counting down . And time is running out.As I said the movie is a suspense thriller based on the 10 Biblical Plagues of Egypt set in the present world. Relying mostly on the strange phenomenal events occurring in the film to engage its viewers, The Reaping can't exactly be classified as a cheesy and predictable B-grade horror film. Depending on your knowledge of the Bible, the ten plagues will amaze you by keeping you on the edge of your seat anticipating the next plague. It's not a whole yard different from the thrills of Jumanji, where the audience is captivated entirely by whatever is going to appear from the enchanted board game. As part of the ten plagues, there are instances of locusts attacks, dead frogs, bloodied rivers, unidentified diseases, flies et cetera et cetera. It's weirdly horrifying, to say the least. The Reaping is admittedly more style than substance, but the style is so strong it's hard not to recommend. Lousiana seems to be the perfect place to make movies like this because the bayou atmosphere also worked well for The Skeleton Key. There is something very quaint about the location but it oozes with a sense of mystery and intrigue. The Reaping utilizes this surrounding to the best of its abilities and never really lets down the audience from a visual stand point. The visuals truly kick into high gear during some of the plague sequences. Some do look "too CGI" but others work quite nicely. The locust scene is a true highlight and definitely got my skin crawling. I'm not a big fan of bugs so I knew this scene would get to me the most. The boils sequence is quite impressive from a make up angle and the thunderstorm towards the end has a few moments of decent effects. There are also some good uses of the foreground as the Lauren character is shown numerous times right outside of the shot to catch the audience by surprise.I also found the subject matter interesting. Usually films about religion, God, and the Devil tend to not interest me, but this film actually went down an interesting road. The plagues and the story behind them is interesting and I loved how her character did provide legitimate scientific reasons to debunk some of these acts of God. There is a theme about the battle between God and the Devil and this explores what angles each takes in their quest to influence mankind (that is, if you believe in God and the Devil) The other actors in the film are adequate but this is Swank's show and i must say she was a wonderful host. There is something extremely likable about her and it made it easy for me to really root for her. She has this every day woman demeanor that translates well on screen. She also handles the emotion of her character's arc very well. There is a reason she's a two time Oscar winner, I just hope that Hollywood continues to utilize her talents. This is truly her project to carry and she does so with the greatest of ease.
The editing is top-drawer, and the cinematography is terrific. Seasoned horror movie buffs will know when something is about to leap out at the heroine, but "The Reaping" doesn't pull any punches or cheat audiences. This is Stephen Hopkins' most polished work to date!
Review:
Brain Scan is one of the most unique horror films I have had the pleasure to witness. The fact that characters may be just a little melodramatic doesn't necessarily come down to a bad script but it is in the essence of all horror films. I think this film is hugely under-rated and deserves more praise for a different perspective on the typical killer which it portrays. I think if people watch the film with an open mind they are less likely to be disappointed. I recommend this film to those of you without who can watch films and ignore any preconceptions that you may have. Michael Bower(Edward Furlong)is an alienated teenager who loves horror films, is still haunted by the car crash that left him with a limp & took his mother's life, and is in love with a girl named Kimberly(Amy Hargreaves), for whom he records with his camcorder. Michael is also bothered by a business father who stays away from home for long periods. He has a horror buddy named Kyle(James Marsh)who informs him of a brand new terror game for the computer which is supposed to be a state of the art virtual experience. He decides to give it a shot expecting it to simply disappoint like other games he has played along the line. This game is called "Brainscan" and it has four different stages with the first having the person playing actually committing a crime of brutal murder. When Mihael partakes of this the whole game becomes all to real when murders in reality begin taking place. When Michael discovers the death of a suburban man to be the one he killed in the video game, he wearily wishes to discontinue the experience altogether. This becomes difficult when a character within the game named Trickster(T. Ryder Smith really hamming it up)makes life unbearable telling him about messes he needs to clean up. Each stage Michael has to play in the game becomes more difficult and it seems more deaths are a result. Actually, the film can be quite fun mainly because our hero keeps sinking further and further into quicksand with every decision to play the next game. Frank Lagella plays Detective Hayden..a man is our source of tension for he keeps suspicion towards Michael always poking about. The film's special effects are hokey, but the idea works for me..this poor kid decides for the ultimate experience and is thrust into a macabre world of his own doing basically because he likes escape through the horror genre often criticized for displaying mindless violence in the way of entertainment. The scriptwriter's alien ideas about how computers and games work are indeed rather laughable, but if you can forgive those, the movie does an admirable job of pulling you into Michael Bower's world. Anyone who has ever done something wrong, and felt that queasiness that comes with the knowledge that yes, you are going to get caught, can relate to the situation Michael is in. The main theme, played several times throughout the movie, is very creepy and mood setting. Excellent cinematography, adequate direction, and weak performances from Frank Langella as the local homicide detective (why was he even IN this movie?!); James Marsh as Kyle, Michael's only friend; and Amy Hargreaves as the girl next door tend to drag down the decent performance given by Edward Furlong and the excellent and compelling talents of T. Ryder Smith as Trickster. That character was an odd combination of Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, and Hannibal Lecter, portrayed beautifully by Smith.
Review:

Director John Eyres directs this slab of stalk 'n slash with both eyes firmly fixed on the teen market, and what may have been a nice addition to the genre becomes an annoying and unwatchable piece of garbage due to its MTV trappings. So obnoxious are the trendy narcissistic teens that make up teacher Marshall Kane's (Bruce Payne) class of wannabe Clarice Starlings, that you'll find yourself rooting for the killer. Main character Molly is perhaps the most annoying character of all; her emotionally troubled, spunky, grunge-chic heroine is carefully designed to appeal to the widest possible teenage demographic; angst-ridden loners, trendy fashion followers, horny guys—she's supposed to appeal to them all. Well I'm not a teenager anymore, and I hated her with a passion! And while I'm having a rant about the students, could someone please explain to me how they all became so damn erudite. From hacking into a police computer undetected, to conducting an autopsy, to fixing a satellite dish, nothing seemed to be beyond their capabilities. This is not the worst movie I have ever seen, but still it is not good that I expected when I haven't watched this movie yet. The opening is unclear, even after the movie ends. The only good scene in this movie is the first classroom scene where professor Kane messes with his students' minds. ::MINOR SPOILERS:: There are also some things I just didn't understand about the movie: a.) What was up with the random accents? The professor and Marisa are British, even though he was in the FBI... Chantelle and the cop are French I think, although I couldn't really tell because the actress playing Chantelle felt the need to whisper all her lines at a mile a minute. b.) Where are they? America, England, France? See above. c.) Is it just me, or is the character of Croaker or whoever, the reject loser, a complete rip off of Johnny Galecki's character in I Know What You Did Last Summer? He even looked like him. And I didn't even like that movie... so for me to defend it is amazing. d.) Is Jason like, a hidden Baldwin brother minus the acting talent? e.) Why did the entire class go up to a secluded cabin in the woods with no police protection or cell phones? And why did the cop feel the need to tell Molly really graphic crime scene info and then freak her out that there is a killer after her... but no police protection will be provided... oh, and I'll stalk you too, just for fun? If I was Molly, I would've called up the cops and reported that cop for harassment. f.) When Mary Anne gets run of the road and she's clinging to the cliff... how does the killer manage to get her off the cliff to mutilate her? g.)If you knew that you were the next one to die, would you go off in the woods in the rain in a car with no windows, no back, and randomly no locks? ALL CARS HAVE LOCKS! h.) The ending... what were the writers smoking when they came up with that? Ambiguity can only take you so far... there needs to be, oh... I don't know... A PLOT to fall back on. i.) What was with Molly and the professor randomly having sex? And if there was a serial killer after you, wouldn't you lock your freaking shack door? That's what she lived in... a shack. j.) Are police files and records really THAT easy to steal? Is that French cop the ONLY cop in town? If all your friends were being butchered, would you really go into a morgue at night all alone? If you were haded towards a buzz saw on an assembly line... wouldnt you try to crawl away from it instead of staring at the saw from 20 feet away? To sum it all up, the acting was awful. If you like A.J. Cooke, watch "Higher Ground." All the characters were unlikeable... my friend and I were just waiting for Chantelle to die. And now onto the death scenes. The first is the best of the murders—a multiple stabbing followed by defenestration—and it is also the bloodiest. The rest of the killings are relatively gore free and disappointing. The best (and nastiest) deaths actually occur by accident, when two characters fall in front of the whirring buzz blades of a sawmill.Toward the end of this drivel, which at 115 minutes is way too long, I gave up following the ludicrous plot. There was some rubbish about the victims sharing the same initials as those killed by Jack the Ripper, a pointless (non-explicit) sex scene, and various characters were revealed as red herrings. The finale is completely confusing and I ended up unsure as to who the killer really was.
Plot:

While babysitting a boy and his baby brother, Casey Beldon has a dreadful nightmare involving a weird dog and an evil child, and she tells her best friend Romy over the phone. Casey is haunted by this boy, and when she goes to the ophthalmologist, he asks if she has a twin brother or sister. She asks her father and discovers that her mother lost a son that died in the womb. Casey suspects that she is haunted by the spirit of her brother. She finds a letter addressed to a woman called Sofi Kozma and a creepy picture at home that belonged to her mother. She goes with Romy to a retirement home to meet Sofi, a survivor of the experiments during the Holocaust. But Sofi tells Casey that she had never met her mother and later calls Casey to tell her she is in great danger. The exorcism is performed, but when the dybbuk tries to stop Rabbi Sendak and others from completing the ritual, things go terribly awry and several people are wounded and killed. The dybbuk then begins chasing Casey and her boyfriend Mark through the building having possessed a priest. Mark kills the priest with a large pipe before finally he is possessed. He then chases and tries to kill Casey. She stabs him in the neck with a necklace given to her by Sofi, then Rabbi Sendak arrives and he and Casey are able to complete the exorcism. This draws the dybbuk out of the human world, but Mark falls and dies during the separation. Casey mourns him and finds out later on that she is pregnant by him, with twins.
Review:

Casey Beldon hated her mother for leaving her as child. But when inexplicable things start to happen , Casy begins to realize and understand why she left. Plagued by merciless dreams and a tortured ghosts that haunts her waking hours, she must turn to the only spiritual adviser Sendak, who can make it stop. Now, let me ask you one question. When would you venture into spooky places to discover potential danger ahead? When ghosts haunt you and everything else fails would be the most logical answer in every movie. However the first scene of this movie expects you to find it very reasonable that returning a lost glove to a beaten up kid and meeting an angry dog wearing an upwards down face paper mask will make you go into the nearby forest and start digging out something potentially dangerous attached to a blue string from the ground. Okay, children wanting to be born. Childbirth is a specific thing only women not men can do so 50% of the audience doesn't worry about giving birth to children. Now, even among females most find the (actually painful and bloody process) of giving birth as something wonderful and fluffy etc. So I guess less than 10% of the females think of it as a gross and scary thing, which leaves 5% of the audience associating themselves with this fear. It seems that at one point of no return the film makers understood this themselves and... Special effects made the horror elements are not totally bad but they are unrelated to it. Like, boogie scares with ghost from behind saying boo when you expect it the most, bugs pouring from walls with yellow liquid (like in Silent Hill), these staple elements seem to be used in every horror movie right now regardless of the content. Like, what does bugs have to do with childbirth? It wasn't even related anyhow within the plot, it just WAS there. Because bugs pouring on you or finding eating some on accident is disgusting or scary for basically every person. This was really a parody in its worst meaning. Not only I did not find anything actually scary within the movie, there was even a supposedly scary scene where the audience burst into laughter (SPOILER: the scene where old man with retardation turning head for 180 degrees and chasing granny with funnily bent body). This is one thing a horror movie must be improved. But I don't say that if it fails, it turns into a disastrous failure at the moment when it does the opposite of what it's supposed to do . Well it is the same as with that scene in The Omen where the bulldog was chasing main hero down a white trench where the main hero opened a hole in the bottom part and dog fell down in a cartoon comedy manner. Well my point is it will look scarier if they planned it better. Full of cliché'd phrases, like "Jamby wants to be born now" which is supposed to be scary but it isn't, all cliché, badly linked together and very unoriginal, and the writers even went so far as to insert sentences indicating that the black best friend of the main heroine will die later in the story, making it more predictable than it already was. Also it was funny how after (SPOILER AHEAD) granny explained her theory to the main heroine of how she thinks this world has many dimensions and it has never been safe there, ALL OTHER characters start to view that as common knowledge. Only shows that script writer thought of this character development from his own and not each individual character's point of view. It is not enough that the scenario was slightly bad. Main actors were chosen by come utterly incomprehensible standards, main heroine was emotionless doll face for the most part like Megan Fox and the guy acting as her boyfriend was, well, an unnoticeable timid commoner whose face I couldn't remember and I understood he was the guy was the bf only at the last scene. The granny played her part best of all people, though.
Plot:

A horror tale set in a High School where the students suspect the teaching staff of being aliens, who are intent on making the students their victims. Written by Jordan Chamerski.Herrington High, Ohio, a small-town highschool. All of a sudden, the teachers start changing attitude. The aliens who take over the school do so by injecting a parasitic organism into the ear, which takes over the brain and creates what appears to be a different version of the person - one that desires to spread the parasite as much as it can. The faculty sends the entire student body to the nurse one by one for ear inspections, where they are taken over. When Casey and Delilah have to hide in a closet in the teacher's lounge, they witness the strangulation of Nurse Harper by two of them. Shocked, they manage to flee. Only moments later, the nurse seems to be very alive, but also somehow changed, like all the teachers and most of the students. Only Casey, Delilah and four others seem to be suspicious. Proof of an alien infection is finally brought by the chemistry teacher, who also points out a way to kill the infected humans. The plan now is to get the queen, before the aliens can spread out over the whole country.Casey figures this out and soon warns the other five. During a meeting, Mr. Furlong (Jon Stewart), the science teacher, enters the room and attempts to infect them with the alien. Zeke pulls out a pen filled with his drug, and jams it into Furlong's eye, which then dries out the alien inside of him, as the drug is a diuretic and the aliens require excessive amounts of water to cope with life on Earth. Thus, they all leave the school, which has become completely infected (the entire student body stares at them), and go to Zeke's house with a sample of the parasite. Stokely speculates that destroying the queen alien will kill all the parasites, without killing their victims. Soon, the group becomes suspicious of each other, each of them citing such actions as Stan's recent shift from football to academics and Casey's sudden courage as potential evidence that they aren't who they say they are. They each take turns snorting the drug to prove that they have not been infected. When Delilah's turn comes, she refuses, revealing that she has already been infected. She then destroys most of Zeke's supply of the drug, as well as his equipment for producing it, before escaping. The remaining five, with what is left of the drug, go to the school, where the entire town is watching the school football game. They succeed in killing Principal Drake (Bebe Neuwirth), but the other hosts remain unaffected. Stan subsequently becomes infected when he goes onto the field to investigate. Because they ran out of their supply of the drug, Zeke and Casey decide to go to Zeke's car for more. Marybeth and Stokely wait inside the school gym for their return. While Casey serves as a decoy, Zeke goes to his car. There, he encounters Miss Burke (Famke Janssen). He seemingly kills her, but she survies.Marybeth reveals herself to be the queen alien; she had escaped snorting the drug by biological trickery. She came to take over Earth as her own planet is dying. She chases Stokely and Casey. Stokely is badly injured, then infected and Zeke is knocked out in the locker room. Casey runs back to the gym area and tricks the alien into following him behind the now-closing bleachers. The machinery traps what used to be Marybeth, but she manages to infect Casey. Casey manages to remain in control of his body long enough to jam the last of the drugs into Marybeth's eye, killing her. With Marybeth dead, the rest of the parasites die and the students and teachers all return to normal. After this, the group shows big changes, including the faculty. Zeke applies his genius to schoolwork and joins the football team (and seems to be dating Miss Burke). Coach Joe Willis is still coaching the football team. Stan and Stokely become boyfriend and girlfriend, Delilah and Casey do the same.Casey is more accepted at school (with various papers talking about his extraterrestrial encounter, despite the official denial of the FBI), and Delilah is no longer vindictive. In the background of the final scene, students are seen bullying another student in the same way they picked on Casey. During the credits, it is seen that Mr. Furlong has survived, although missing one of his eyes.
Review:

This ship and edgy thriller, sci-fi horror film from the director of From Dusk Till Dawn and the writer of Scream 1 & 2 sizzle with a hot young cast including Elijah Wood Josh Hartnett, and R&B Superstar Usher Raymond ! When some very creepy things start happening around school, the teens at Herrington High make chilling discovery that confirms their worst suspicions : their teachers really are from another planet! As mind controlling parasites rapidly begin spreading from the faculty to the students' bodies, its ultimately up to the few who are left - an unlikely collection of loners, leaders, nerds, and jocks - to save the world from alien domination. This is pretty much the typical slasher, with just one twist. It's also helped by the fact that there's other things going on than just a bunch of killings; there are conflicts between the characters from the very beginning, before the killing starts. This is pretty unique for a slasher, and it definitely helps the film become more interesting. The plot is interesting, well, more interesting than slasher plots usually are. The acting is pretty much all very good, the actors nearly all give top-notch performances. The special effects are good, and mostly pretty convincing. I've heard a lot of people complain that this movie is a ripoff of the Carpenter classic "The Thing". While that film is the better of the two, this is by no means a simple ripoff. The plot in this is not the same, there are just a few striking similarities. I would rather think of it as a reference, something to honor Carpenter's abilities - Rodriguez was inspired by Carpenter, after all. I would recommend this to pretty much anyone who enjoys slasher movies, sci-fi flicks, or crossovers of the two genres. It's very enjoyable; the only thing I hated was that they had casted Elijah "babyface" Wood in one of the leads... oh well. You can't always enjoy all aspects of a film. Robert Rodriguez's directing and editing is very fantastic but it is Kevin Williamson's sharp script that steals the show. I hate when people say it's biting off of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Thing among other titles...but that's one reason why I like Kevin Williamson's writing. I like the pop culture references he throws in there because it gives the film the right amount of humor. Bristling with atmosphere, issues, and surprises, "The Faculty" qualifies as a witty, rip-snorting, reptilian chiller that never takes itself seriously. Good paranoid thrillers that keep audiences guessing up to fade out are few and far between. Indeed, the characters get the short shrift, but action rather than characterization propels "The Faculty" to its nail-biting finale. Nevertheless, the filmmakers offset the lack of character development with cinematic and literary references to genre classics. Stokely and Casey engage in an illuminating colloquy about sci-fi literature and point out that Robert Heinlein's "The Puppet Masters" beats Jack Finney's "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" to the book racks. On the other hand, they reveal that Hollywood has exploited Finney more frequently than Heinlein. Even if you abhor horror movies, you might be able to tolerate this playful, well-paced hellraiser. While The Faculty is no Scream, it is still a very, very entertaining, funny and thrilling film that's worth watching more than once!
Plot:
The story is Ash and his girlfriend go on a romantic getaway in a secluded cabin among the woods somewhere in Michigan, sound familiar? Ash then finds a tape of some doctor who used the house for research on a mysterious evil book known as the Necronomicon. Professor Knowby somehow translated the book and with the help of a huge 1980's tape recorder begins reciting passages from it. The passages he recites resurrect the deadites (the demons of the Necronomicon) and then WHAM all hell breaks loose, literally. The sound of glass breaking and Linda’s scream from the next room are dead giveaways to Ash’s mistake. He arrives to Linda’s aid, but finds her missing. Distraught, Ash begins to search for Linda by going outside, but getting more than he expected. Linda pops out of the shadows, but she is not herself, she is possessed. Ash, startled by Linda, falls to the ground next to a shovel which he uses to decapitate Linda as she lunges at him. So just like in the first movie Ash buries Linda and marks her grave, but The Evil Force has plans for Ash. The Force comes after Ash through the cabin, busting through the doors, picking him up, throwing him through the trees, slamming him against a big one, and dropping him in a puddle. This is where the new material begins with Ash coming up out of the puddle possessed by evil and screaming, but soon the evil realizes the sun is coming up and begins to go away. Shortly after the possession subsides from Ash he screams in terror and passes out. Ash awakens and looks around seeing a pair of eyes overlaying the cabin and a disembodied voice saying “Join us”. Suddenly Ash decides to get out of there as he rushes to his car and speeds off down the path out from the cabin. Ash quickly discovers that he is trapped by finding the destroyed bridge down the road and he also discovers that he is not alone and has slept most of the day. The sun begins going down and the evil force begins to chase after Ash as he runs to his car and speeds back towards the cabin, crashes his car, flies through the windshield, and continues to run. The force chases Ash through the cabin until he evades it. Defeated, it leaves the cabin and Ash comes out. After a period of solitude, Ash is startled by boards falling off a nearby window, and upon investigation he sees his dead girlfriend Linda’s headless body dancing and after the dance she attacks Ash through the window. Ash wakes up to discover the attack was just a dream and relaxes. Ash’s relax is short lived as Linda’s head falls in his lap and attacks him by biting his hand. Ash takes the head to the work shed where he gets the head off but is attacked by Linda’s body wielding a running chainsaw. After defeating Linda again Ash returns to the cabin where he finds a shotgun or boomstick for the fans, but while loading it he sees a rocking chair in the next room moving and he confronts it to find that there is something invisible in the chair. Ash panics and tries to calm himself in a mirror but is attacked by his reflection. After the attack Ash’s hand becomes possessed and attacks him in a slapstick way much like The Three Stooges. Ash’s hand knocks him out and tries to get a meat clever to kill him with but Ash stops it and cuts his hand off with the nearby chainsaw. In the middle of the movie, some totally new characters show up and it's pretty obvious they're only there to get killed by the demons. But then again, what other purposes can characters in a horror movie have anyway? This second movie in the "Evil Dead"-series is kinda different actually,it gets more surreal here, mainly because Ash has really lost it here in the first half, and the demons appear to be even more over-the-top and more evil. However, they both grab themselves together near the end for their final showdown.Ash is accompanied by a bunch of idiots but as they're idiots, they don't help much and get killed in some rather original ways.I'm not sure when this movie is situated, but I'm guessing this movie acts like the first one never existed. Not that it completely retells the story,it merely summarises it.And as I took this walk on gross-out lane,I found myself very entertained, somehow shocked but I don't have a clue by what exactly and I did laugh along with Ash and the deer head I must say. That scene really puts a spell on you.Almost as great as the first one Annie, unable to find her parents, plays her father’s tape finding out that her mother, Henrietta, had become possessed, and that her father tried to kill her but could not completely destroy her, so he buried her in the cellar. Shortly after they find out about this, voices come from the basement and an attack by Henrietta begins. Ash makes it out of the cellar, and Ed suffers from this attack as he is knocked out. Shortly after, Ash explains what’s going on to Ed, Annie, Jake, and Bobby Jo, but he is interrupted by Henrietta trying to get Annie’s attention. She asks Annie to let her out but she refuses. Ed then becomes possessed and attacks the group. Ash lays waste to Ed, but time stops and strange noises flood the cabin. Annie and Ash begin to investigate, just to find a ghostly head coming through into their world. Is the head of Professor Knowby, who tells them of a way to defeat the evil that swarms the woods outside, and then fades back into darkness. Suddenly, Ash’s hand strikes once again, scaring Bobby Jo out of the cabin. She is quickly grabbed by the trees animated by the evil, and killed far away from the cabin. Jake, distraught by the confusion, peers out for her, but she is nowhere in sight. Annie shows Ash the pages that will defeat the evil, and one in particularly catches his eye: an illustration of a "hero from the sky", said to have defeated the evil in the time of the book; this hero is garbed strangely like Ash. A moment later, Jake, holding a gun, throws the papers in the cellar and demands that they all go out in the woods to search for Bobby Jo. While out there, they don’t find her, but instead find the evil force at work once again, and it has moved the trees so they cannot get out. Evil Ash returns and attacks Jake first, but Annie gets away, going back into the cabin. Evil Ash pops up at the door and says “join us” to Annie. She closes the door as Ash tries to get in. Ash heads for the back door of the cabin, and realizing this, Annie heads to the back to lock the door. Ash realizes that he can’t get in and hides, while Jake makes his way back to the cabin. Upon getting in the door, he is stabbed by Annie, who was thinking that it was Ash. Annie drags Jake to the front room of the cabin, but unknowingly lays him by the cellar door, where Henrietta disposes of him. Annie backs away only to be attacked by Ash, who lifts her up and throws her against the wall. His evilness is short lived, as he looks down to see Linda’s necklace on the floor, with the chain laying in the shape of a skull. Then he comes out of his possession, crying for his lost love. Ash’s Mourning only lasts a moment, because Annie begins to attack him, fearing that he is still possessed. He convinces her that he is fine, and so begins the cooperation to rid themselves of the evil around them. They need the pages out of the cellar to do it, so Annie and Ash gather what ever weapons they can find, and they prepare for the final confrontation.Ash cuts open the cellar door and kicks it in. He goes down and gets the pages, and tosses them up to Annie. Annie begins to read them, but gets distracted by an all-out attack by Henrietta. Henrietta makes it up before Ash and attacks Annie, but Ash comes to her rescue and fights with Henrietta. He doesn’t seem to be able to gain an advantage, so Annie distracts Henrietta long enough for Ash to recover, and he quickly dismembers Henrietta. Ash's victory is short lived though, and another attack by the evil force begins. Ash is forced to fight it off while Annie finishes the passages to dispose of the evil. Annie is almost cut short by Ash’s possessed hand which stabs her in the back, but she finishes the passage just before dying. The plan backfires slightly, since Ash is pulled into the vortex that is taking away all the evil and sending it back where it belongs.Ash is sent back through time to the time of the “Necronomicon”. Knights surround him when he hits the ground, and they are just about to kill him when a demon comes flying in to attack them. Acting by impulse and reflex, Ash gets the upper hand and disposes of it with his trusty boomstick. The knights stand in awe, as the demon explodes and the warrior still stands. The leader of the knights (Sam Raimi) raises his face shield and exclaims: “Hail he who has come from the sky to deliver us from the terrors of the deadites!”. Ash realizes his fate as the hero in the page illustration of the Necronomicon, and begins screaming “NO!” louder and louder, as the knights gather around him exclaiming “Hail!”...and waiting for his command.
The sequel of the film Evil Dead. A young man named Ash takes his girlfriend Linda to a secluded cabin, and plays back a professor's tape recorded recitation of passages from the BOOK OF THE DEAD or the NECRONOMICON . The dark spell calls up an evil force from the woods which turns Linda into a monstrous deadite , and threatens to so the same to Ash. When the professor's daughter and her entourage show up at the cabin, the night turns into a non-stop, grotesquely comic battlewith chainsaw and shotgun on one side, demon horde, flying eyeball on the other and a dancing corpse in the front yard. "Evil Dead II" is not nearly as good as the original in my opinion. Despite the more professional look and better pacing, I prefer the original for its lack of slapstick. The first worked so well because it was such an unrelenting and grueling experience and was the finest horror film since "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". It didn't take prisoners, and while its a bit dated it still has the power to terrify the audience. Not to mention it had some great if primitive stop motion effects. I really wish Sam Raimi would make another all out horror film again as thats what he does best. That being said, "Evil Dead II" is still quite enjoyable but not terrifying likr the first one, on its own merits. I usually hate films that attempt to combine horror with comedy (such as the reprehensible "Scream" series), as they're often neither scary nor funny. While "Evil Dead II" is never scary, its often hilarious. Imagine an off the wall combination of "Friday the 13th" with the Three Stooges, and you're coming close. The sight gags are often surreal and inspired, the sequence with the hand being the finest. Also, the film is very atmospheric and still maintains a sense of unnerving creepiness, which was completely jettisoned for "Army of Darkness". I'm not a fan of "Army of Darkness", as it had too much slapstick and seemed to be made to appeal to a wider audience. This one has plenty of gore to still appeal to fans of the original. The gore is so over-the-top its difficult to find it even remotely offensive. The sequel to the gory, atmospheric horror flick The Evil Dead is really more of a (black) slapstick comedy... something there was a hint of in the first. Here, it's pushed all the way through... it's cartoony and provided you're into the humor, fun. I found it more cool than fun, honestly; never been into laughing at pain, no matter whose it is. But there's no doubt about it; this film is cool. It's also very much a 'guy' film... get 'the gang' together, call up all your guy friends and get a copy of this film, preferably an uncut one. You'll love it. So did I, no doubt about that. The better part of the film is basically a remake of the first... new characters and new plot points, but the progression and such is the same. The situations are the same, but the ways in which we get to them are different from the first film. It's a fine idea, and it works great, too, because the outcomes of the situations are different, as well... meaning, you see a scene and go "Oh, right, I remember this from the first... oh yeah, now he... what the ...!?" The plot is interesting, new and old parts alike. It's not Shakespeare, but it keeps your interest. The acting is the same fairly low standard as that of the first. The characters are equally ill-developed(though this time, I *could* tell them apart... they were easier to tell from each other, however, so maybe I wasn't the only one who couldn't tell those in the first apart?). The editing is excellent, just as the case was with the first. The special effects have improved... harder to figure out than those of the first, and that says quite a lot. The budget is higher(ten-fold, according to this very site), and it's most definitely noticeable. The emphasis throughout all of the film is mostly on humor and 'coolness' factor, very little on scares and horror. There's about the same amount of gore, at least as far as I could tell. The film is worth watching for just about any guy... regardless of maturity, really. There are things here that will make every guy watching it go "way cool!". One scene in particular had said effect on me... around the one hour mark, involving a chainsaw and a shotgun... anyone who has seen the film already know what I'm talking about, and I won't say anymore so as to not spoil it for anyone who hasn't. See it for yourself; you won't regret it. I recommend this film to any fan of Sam Raimi, gore, the first The Evil Dead, slapstick and/or Bruce Campbell. Of course, all guys should check it out. The film has such a thick 'guy' vibe, it should almost be mandatory for guys to watch it. Anyway, if you fit into one or more of the aforementioned groups, get a hold of this flick and watch it. Chances are high you'll love every second of it.
Plot:
The film opens with a long traveling shot of a woman reading "Little Red Riding Hood" to a child, and it's a dazzling introduction, with the camera peering through a keyhole and gliding into the room, leading up a truly unsettling murder. We are then introduced to our lead players, a quintet of actors hired to perform Red Riding Hood for an eccentric millionaire, Axel de Fersen(Berleand), and his autistic grandson, Nicolas ( a spooky kid named Thibault Truffert) . As the title suggests, Axel's home is an isolated castle deep within the woods, and from the moment the group arrives, there is an immediate sense of dread, with Axel displaying a rather nasty temperment,( as well as a bit of "affection" for Wilfried (Lecoeur)), a bizarre "game-keeper" named Stephane (Denis Levant) who hovers over Axel protectively, and, of course, the autistic Nicolas, who manages to be creepy just by sitting there. Meanwhile, the police are in hot pursuit of a serial rapist who has apparently taken up residence in the 10 kilometers of woods surrounding Axel's estate. Before long, we are thrown headlong into a Giallo-like murder-mystery that works quite well until the final act, where the film seems to run out of gas. Still, it's quite a ride while it lasts!
Review:

Five sexy french young actors receive an invitation to perform their controversial retelling of Little Red Riding Hood myth for the mysterious Axel de Fersen. As the beautiful neurotic young girls and boys drive ever faster, ever nearer to the remote venue - the air thick with jealousy, ego, and sex - their bitching is constantly interrupted by relentless and insetting news bulletins. Disquieting reports of savage rapes and bloody serial killings. Something ugly is stalking this remote neck of woods. The tension grows. Deep in the Woods (akaromenons-nous dans les bois) is a sort of French spin on the glossy post-Scream teen slasher. All the ingredients are present, from the cast of beautiful young men and women, the hip soundtrack, right on down to the film's packaging, which looks straight out of Dimension's art department. However, all similiarities end there. Judging this "book" by it's cover would be a big mistake, because Deep in the Woods is more Argento than Craven, and is one of the finest examples of European horror to make it on to DVD.Understanding that every one has their own opinion, I was shocked to find out that this movie only has a 4 point rating. Forget the rating and give it a chance. The movie is photographed extremely well. You rarely see this, especially in horror movies. I like to say it reminds me of Raimi. Along with the visuals, the story will keep you guessing. The last horror to do that for me was SCREAM. This is the non-literal adaption of LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD and is poorly marketed as an English teen slasher. I expected to laugh at this rental, as I love to do with every other B-movie. This is more. Simply, a great horror movie. Oddly enough, I am usually the one jumping in horrors and not my girlfriend, suprisingly we both were this time. Cough, but I did it in a manly way. Regardless of the majority rating, take in consideration those who liked it. This movie is worth it if you like the genre. Oh, and watch it with sub-titles. Normally, I would say it wouldn't matter THAT much; however, like MONONOKE it is much better with it's original performances. I hope you give it a chance and enjoy the photography, suspense, and playfully amusing (read: gory) deaths. As a whole, I highly recommend Deep in the Woods. It's leagues better than any of it's American counterparts (although so is sleeping or watching paint dry), and is sure to please fans of Argento, Bava, et all. The only complaints I have are the same complaints I always have with Giallo's and that is the cardboard characterizations and lack of logic in the script, although Deep in the Woods is actually pretty consistent in the latter. So for all that might expect me to dislike this movie. Wrong! I truly enjoyed it for a number of reasons. It's gaudy look and big-budget visuals (it really is a feast for the eyes). One of the first shots is a bird against a slightly cloudy sky and that image is almost worth the price of admission alone. The luxurious and atmospheric score that accompanies all the mayhem is classy and nice. The murder set-pieces that are choreographed with assurance and style. Let's just hope that this director can sink his teeth in a better script next time. Then we might TRULY be able to look forward to a great horror movie, one that even could become a classic within it's genre!

Plot:
The film begins with Judith Gray (Tracy Scoggins) and Matt Cable (Jeff Weston), two police officers (boyfriend and girlfriend), waiting outside of the an isolated parking lot beside a warehouse for overstocked toys, waiting to arrest two gun shop owners, Lincoln (Michael Russo), and Guy Hesse (Barry Lynch), for selling illegal guns from foreign countries. While they're waiting, Judith tells Matt about a strange dream she's been having: Two boys, one good, one bad, playing war, and a small wooden room with a dangling lamp hanging from the ceiling. She also mentions to Matt that she's been thirty-one days pregnant. The gun shop owners finally arrive, but ends with Matt shooting Hesse in the ribs, and Lincoln shooting Matt in the chest, killing him. With Hesse still alive (barely), Lincoln and Hesse run and hide inside the ARCADIA TOYS Warehouse, with Judith chasing them, and they split up, and Judith continues to go after Lincoln. Judith detains Lincoln but they are both locked in a store room with a steel door while elsewhere Hesse crawls across a strange glowing spot on the floor badly injured & bleeding, as his blood drips onto the floor an evil demon is given the power to bring some of the various toys to life & Hesse first has his face chewed off by a mutant Jack in the Box, he then has his fingers bitten off by an incredibly vicious teddy bear & finally Hesse is shot by a toy robot using blue laser beams. Mark Wayne (Bently Mitchum) an employee of 'Chunky Chicken' fast food restaurant turns up to deliver an order to the grossly overweight foul-mouthed security guard named Charnetski (Peter Schrum), they both hear noises coming from the store room & discover Judith. Charnetski tries to go for help but is killed by the demonic toys, everyone, along with a homeless kid named Anne (Ellen Dunning) find themselves trapped in the warehouse & that these toys are controlled by a demon who grows stronger with each of their death's, stronger to achieve his ultimate hideous aim...
Review:

They're cute and cuddly by day, lethal demons by night. Ruthless killing toys come alive for just one purpose.. death. And if you have been trapped with them , every child's worst nightmare has become a deadly reality. While on a stakeout Judith Gray a beautiful tough cop is trapped inside a warehouse full of toys. But these are no ordinary playthings they have been awakened to murderous life by a strange child of darkness. The KID. Each toys feeds on blood : Jack in the Box heads straight for the throat ; Teddy Bear is not afraid to show his sharp teeth and claws ; Baby Doll is truly to die for ; and Robot will shoot you wherever you go. Now it is up to Gray and other adults, to stop deadly demonic toys. Directed by Peter Manoogian for the 'killer toy' specialist's Full Moon Demonic Toys doesn't rank particularly high in this horror film sub-genre as far as I'm concerned. The script by David S. Goyer who has since gone on to write massive Hollywood films such as Blade (1998), Blade II (2002), Blade: Trinity (2004), Dark City (1998), Batman Begins (2005) & the upcoming Ghost Rider (2006) film was amongst his first & after this it's a wonder he was ever let near any of those films. The characters are extremely one dimensional, they have virtually no personality or background although having said that a one or two of them were sort of likable. Demonic Toys is about a demon trying to resurrect itself more than killer toys, this demon just uses them every once in a while to knock off one of the cast members. No explanation is given as to who this demon is or where he came from & Goyer also throws in some of those annoying dream sequences & the demon taking the form of dead characters trying to trick those still alive, you know the sort of thing. I would also like to know how that killer teddy bear managed to grow to human sized proportions. Demonic Toys is clichéd & starts to become dull as it's easy to tell who's going to die & survive & it features no logic or sense whatsoever. Technically Demonic Toys is cheap & nasty, the production design consists of placing lots of cardboard boxes with 'ARCADIA TOYS' written on them in each location & it becomes monotonous very quickly. There are various mistakes & errors & the special effects are generally poor except a rather good stop-motion animated toy soldier at the end. The music by Richard Band sounds like, but not as good, the theme from the far superior Dolls (1987) which isn't a surprise as Band also scored that. The killer toys themselves lack imagination except the Jack in the box who is the first toy to be killed anyway so don't expect to see a lot of him. The gore is tame & unconvincing apart from a reasonable decapitation, there are a few bites, a few gunshot wounds, a scene when someone pokes his own eyes out, someone is poked in the eye & someone has their fingers bitten off. The acting is OK for this sort of thing & both Scoggins & the goofy Mitchum make for pleasantly likable leads. Overall the best thing thing I can about Demonic Toys is that I thought it passed 80 odd minutes without to much pain but there isn't a whole lot here that impressed me & I'll have probably forgotten about it by next week (or at least I hope I will have). If your after a good, fun & entertaining killer toy film then check out the Puppet Master (1989 - 2003) & it's sequels, Dolls or the Child's Play (1988 - 2004) films instead. Great title, below average film but still maybe worth a watch if your absolutely desperate or a killer toy film fan.
