Not only is The Evil Dead being remade, it is being remade by a combination of a CGI loving 1st-time director (I've said many a time, one probably could pull off a very successful Evil Dead remake, but it would take a director who knew what he was doing to do so), Diablo Cody (The original Evil Dead is, at least to me, a straight horror film, which does not do well under someone known for heavy pop-culture references and sarcasm), and Sam Raimi (who feels Evil Dead 2 is the "real" film despite being a marked change in tone to the silly).

Though I once thought that there was a slim chance that this remake could be pulled off with a truly elite crew, I... have basically given up hope that this will be the legendary horror film to actually top The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in quality/consistency. Evil Dead 1 as it stands gets closer than most horror films, but is a little too weighed down by its flaws to reach the same level. Now, I present for the viewing masochism of the TalkHorror community, a piece of impotent rage against the opportunity so sadly squandered:

I was wondering what other horror fans thought of the remakes of the great George Romero's living dead films. Should I mention Day of the Dead 2 - Contagium, Day of the Dead - Need to Feed, or Night of the Living Dead 3D ?

MGM and Screen Gems are coming together for a remake of Stephen King's 1976 classic.

Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been tapped to write the new Carrie script.

Rumors abound as to who will play the lead. And they are all truly terrifying rumors: Megan Fox? Lindsay Lohan?
I am sad.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

There's been some news on the horizon, and apparently David Gordon Green's Suspiria remake is still in the works (and they're using the original Goblin soundtrack :claaaap: and Steve Jablonsky will be orchestrating it :banghead. I am... excited, believe it or not, but not entirely optimistic about it. There are a few ways Suspiria could be successfully remade if you ask me, but like if Evil Dead were to be remade, the director would have to be a real fucking horror-virtuoso for it to work.

I think MAYBE Gordon Green could prove to be one. From what little he's given us, he doesn't seem to be just some formulaic music-video director posing as a fanboy; he actually claims to have a plan for it, something that could incorporate a lot of cultural elements (which can indeed be frightening to play with), add symbolism, and due to this possibly turn out to make an epic remake. Of course, the guy could be lying, or turn out to be clueless where it really counts.

Still, I have more hope for a re-do of Suspiria than, say, the rumored Candyman remake that would make the titular killer white.

To restate my earlier idea, I think there are many ways to do a worthwhile Suspiria remake; you could do what Argento originally wanted and make the main character a child, but keep the gore to make things completely twisted, you could do what I think Green may do and keep the general plot but add a bunch of surrealism, non-superficial witchcraft and social commentary, or simply go by the way of the original but add more mystery to the plot and make it longer to give more potential to heighten suspense.

There are some things one would really have to do to make a good Suspiria remake in my opinion

* Emulate Argento's directorial style
* Keep the main character determined but never feeling in-control, and somewhat flat in terms of personality
* Never do a boring looking death scene
* Never let other genre-elements overtake the horror
* And more

Do you think a remake of Suspiria could work? If so, how would you do it?

What's the worst thing about remakes, ladies and laddies?

Well... that's debatable, but here's my point:

After a remake you might actually WANT to see, you can still be disappointed if you feel too many things were taken out/changed from the original, or if some things you found to be problems were left alone. What makes it worse is that once remakes are done, it's unlikely they'll be ripe to remake again for a long while, especially since remakes tend to be more high-budget than the originals!

We, the big TH are going to do things RIGHT. I will start with the name of three films, and turn-by-turn we will decide what should be changed/added, and what should be taken out.

Each poster has 3 changes they can make; they can distribute these changes any way they wish, giving all three changes to one film or giving one change to each, or anything in between... previous changes can be struck (hey, creative differences happen ), but that counts as a change in itself. Try to limit your edits, no throwing two totally unrelated changes inside one "change".

Also, please explain your changes; this isn't Hollywood where you can throw in ridiculous stuff for no reason and get away with it! Speaking of ridiculous, I meant for this to be a serious editing game, but if the majority feels a more comedic direction would be preferred, I'm down with it.

Madman:

* Keep the film going for longer after the original ended, so as to make the thing less abrupt and expand on our main characters.

One Dark Night:

* Release the psychic-animated corpses earlier, to build more suspense and so as not to confine all the real action to the last 15 minutes.

Puppet Master:

* Add more of a whodunit element, make Megan a suspect for the weird goings-on at the inn

Oh damn, i just read about a remake of the 80s's horror movie Lunch Meat. Now this in my opinion is just plain BS. Its being remade apparently by an unknown named Damian Price. I hear its set already for a 2010 release. Ughhhhhh. I been doing alot of research on the original lately because i have been trying to score this movie for a while now. But its so hard to get, its only on VHS and was never released on DVD, at least yet anyway. Its basically a rip off of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre i hear. But who cares, a horror movie has to come from somewhere right? Whether its good or bad. Well i finally scored me one and im still waiting on it. Ive also read where this was a hoax to, so ill keep digging around and see what all i can find out about this and update this post. But i thought i would share this bit of news anyway!
