Put off watching this one for a while out of the suspicion I'd be let down by its execution after hearing the exquisitely disturbing premise.

I was not disappointed. While not a gem in terms of suspense, Found had its moments, and really shined in its portrayal of family turmoil. Even parts of it not relating back to the main plot - the younger brother keeps finding severed heads in his older brother's closet - were uncomfortable to watch. One of the things that had me worried was the common complaint of poor acting. I won't lie and say the lead, Gavin Brown as Marty, was in the best tenth of kid performances I've seen, but he was good enough that he drew me into the film rather than distracting me. His narration was a little on the awkward, deadpan side, but he was playing a shy kid with family issues... who often are awkward and deadpan. The adult actors, I had little to no problems with. Ethan Philbeck, who plays the disturbed older brother Steve, steals the show.

Other standout points include a disturbing climax which I will not spoil, and a unique motivation for slasher, to say the least, which I also will not spoil.

It's worth the hype, and recommended. 7/10 material.

Hi folks,

Wanted to let you know about "BedBugs," a feature sci-fi/horror film written by Dave Eisenstark (writer of "Creepozoids" and other films).

It's currently in development, but we're pushing forward by producing a trailer. We've cast Shannon Lark (Fangoria Spooksmodel 2009) and Morgan Mead and are shooting at the end of May. We're packing the film full of old-school EFX and high-end digital VFX to bring the evil, 6" bugs to life. As a professional animator and VFX artist and the film's director, I can guarantee the effects will be off the hook!

If this all sounds interesting, I'd invite you to follow us at https://www.facebook.com/BedbugsTheMovie or http://bedbugsthemovie.net/.

UPDATE: We've finished a new trailer, full of evil bugs: http://www.indiegogo.com/bedbugsthemovie

I was pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. I'd read extensive spoilers prior to seeing the film (first heard about it from Bravo's original 100 Scariest Movie Moments), but none of them had told me about all the smug foreshadowing the villagers would convey to Det. Howie, nor the subjective madness of the town's "festivities" on the final day of action.

I'd call it a horror/thriller hybrid. Now, I call Saw a pure thriller, so my definition of horror vs. thriller is different than many. Still, whilst I felt Saw primarily aimed to confuse the audience, I felt that there was a lot more in Wicker Man meant primarily to creep an audience out. These elements make it a great horror movie in my book.

Caught this one on TCM On Demand tonight, hearing that it was the first film of Puppet Master FX wiz David Allen and could have inspired The Evil Dead to an extent. The trailer seemed somewhat creepy in a surreal, clunky '70s sort of way; alas, the movie failed to truly deliver.

It started out promising; shots of the inner workings of clocks, followed by a somewhat intense scene of our main character fleeing unseen evil forces. The pace slowed to an uneventful crawl shortly afterwards though, a fact "helped" by some very stilted acting. There was some effective setup, thanks in large part to a number of well-done setpieces (the castle which we never see inside of, the cabin which we never really see inside of, etc...), but the aforementioned factors really killed the whole mood. It screamed B-movie after a certain length of time.

As people have said before, the centerpiece of the film is the effects work. David Allen was no Ray Harryhausen at the time, but even the clunkier creatures were interesting to watch.

I'd give it a 5/10. Uneven, but average when balanced out.

Another one I found on Netflix, and a damn good chase-heavy slasher ...for half of the film anyway. This is, of course, taking into account the fact that it is a modern slasher and there are few good ones now.

Though it is heavy on cliche in places ("this isn't funny!"), some real creepy moments had me thinking the writer and/or director had their shit together and really wanted a good film.

Now, back to the "slasher for half of the film" idea. Near the end, the film stops being a slasher and turns into a psychological thriller, and as with many thrillers the ending is weaker than what precedes it. It IS clever, in fact, the twist made my jaw drop... it's just a little implausible and not pulled off quite as well as it could have been in my humble opinion.

Still, The Maze is a great effort which makes me want to see more from the filmmakers. I give it a 6.5/10 and my strong recommendation.

I really have very little to say about this one, other than that I enjoyed it, and I think so should fans of creepy anthologies. Actually, I got a big Tales From The Darkside vibe from it. All three stories felt like episodes (had "Darkside" been done by Brits anyway) despite being completely unrelated, and although the first story is a little predictable (think Mr. Briggs's favorite movie), the second could have been done a tiny bit better and the third story climaxes weakly, the "ambiance" of the work counts for something.

Speaking of the film's flaws just a bit more; the segments which tie together the stories are also rather poor, but often the wraparound of an anthology means little. Makes sense considering that allegedly the stories were originally separate and were brought together by another company, and really doesn't take big points away from the film.

I'll go ahead and be generous: 7/10
I don't believe it is officially on DVD. I found it on Netflix if anyone reading has it, and the film hasn't been taken offline by the time they do.

Makes sense considering that allegedly the stories were originally separate and were brought together by another company, and really doesn't take big points away from the film.

okay so I have seen the movie on YouTube

and it has some echos of Saw "playing" a "game"
and the twisted (understatement mine) family life - but without giving away too much of the ending by saying those who "went away with the angels" were the lucky ones...

I felt that there could have been a much better darker conclusion.

Anyone else who saw this film agree?
