It was announced earlier in the year that The Purge wasn’t only going to be a film franchise, but like a lot of other horror films as of late, it’s going to get its own spin-off television series.
Speaking of which, the next film in the series isn’t set to drop until 2018, which is when they plan on releasing the television series, as well.
Even though we have a while to wait for the air date, Jason Blum has dropped some info on the upcoming series, stating the following that it will be “an entirely new chapter in America’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness,” and will “reveal to the fans what happens the other 364 days of the year and how that law affects people.”
James DeMonaco, the creator of the film franchise, will also serve as writer, director, and executive producer for The Purge television series.
So, what I take from this is that we’re going to get another long-winded television drama, rather than a bad ass, acton-packed horror series.
The Purge is titled The Purge, because, well, there’s a purge! Purge night is literally the high point of the year, and what the films are based around, so why the hell would we care about the other 364 days of the year and all of the bullshit surrounding it?
You may as well just title it The Real Housewives Of Purge City or whatever.
Anyways, if you’re interested, The Purge tv series will air on both SyFy, and USA.
I feel your pain, Ethan Hawke… 😥
