I've always been someone who loves hearing someone's religious views. 90% of the time I hear the typical "Lord and Savior" preference, but once in a while I'll hear something really interesting. So what's yours?
(and this isn't an attempt to bash anyone for their views, so please don't do so. if you want to let us know WHY you believe in something or don't believe in something feel free to do so, but no need to pick fun at someone for their views)

I'm one of those dull, dull "Lord and savior" people . Still, I'll agree most faiths are valid, by my theory God will not send people to hell for what they believe is believing in God >.>

I am pretty chaotic about religion, and I talk ALL THE TIME about it. It's right there with philosophy for me, and in truth, I don't like religion, though I believe in a "God", but I think "God" is the Universe and we are all part of it. I base my views on Science of all things, and Science being the epitomy of Logic. Now, everything is made up of the exact same thing, which are protons and electrons and quarks put together to form larger bodies known as atoms. So in the long view, or the REALLY REALLY close view, everything is one thing. Though not "Connected" per-se, matter turns to energy and vise a versa and comes together and apart often. All that matter and energy is the body or "God". Now religion, heh, religion is just man trying to explain everything they don't understand. And Christianity is Sun (Son) worship. I honestly am jealous of people who have any faith at any religion that has a "God" that is a good god that helps them out. My "God" just kinda hangs back and is. Anyways, hey, you asked!!!!!!!! There is A LOT more to it, and it changes from time to time, sometimes drastically. Hence "God" is chaotic. More like nature worship than anything, but I can't call myself a Pagan. I find religions fascinating, but I don't believe them. If you have something that makes you feel good about yourself, life, and even death, then good for you. That's very cool I'm glad for ya, truly

So does that mean you believe in a God that is intelligent (But not necessarily benevolent or malevolent), or simply a God as a connecting force?

Uhhhhh, my tiny human brain doesn't know. Every thought about the size of the Universe or the span of infinity? Now look at the size of the human brain compared to that. EVERYONE on Earth know almost absolutely nothing.
But all in all, considering that solar systems are set up like atoms on a much larger scale, who knows what everything truly is. Do I believe in an intelligent "God"? Maybe. I mean damn! Something that size and of such a complexity might just be intelligent in some form, but probably waaaaaaaaaaayyyy beyond human comprehension. Maybe a billion times smarter, maybe an infinite time smarter, or maybe just a reactionary being that reacts to set stimulus. Don't know. Maybe one day I will. Then again, maybe one day I will but be worm food that is eaten and turned into dirt, which is one day heated to a million degrees and turned into energy that one day the gravity of many more little balls of energy comes together and eventually forms a star that shines brightly for a million years and starts to eventually run out of juice and cools down and implodes on it self and sprays cool matter all around that eventually forms into water or an animal or an alien or another human or the ingredients for Fritos. Who truly knows? Maybe I will go to Christian "Hell", which I really don't believe n, but who knows, and become a hardcore born again Christian, because then I would know the truth, and I would love the Christian God with all my heart, and still get to burn in hell eternally. OUCH! That would suck! Ya know, I was raised Southern Baptist (Ouch), and a lot of my irrational fears of the Christian God still persist in my mind. The Christian God was scary to me as a child. Do good, no matter what, even if it seems wrong, even if it makes you unhappy, unhealthy, uncomfortable. Because no matter what, one small step in the wrong direction and it's eternal pain for you forever never ending. Wow, and you people wonder why I like to joke around so much. I take small joys in the world. I am good because that is what I want to be. I love because that is what makes me happy. I help people because that s ME. I care about those around me, because that is ME. Not because it is the "Right" thing to do. Because I am ME. Not because of fear of hell. Not because I owe some dude who may not of even existed something. Because it is who I am. Not because some VERY VERY OLD, OUTDATED text says it is right.
P.S. Sorry to the Christians around here. I honestly believe the Christian religion can be a wonderful thing for people who have faith. I am faith deficient. Sorry.
Hehe, one day, I was discussing religion with a Christian friend of mine, and she got frustrated and said "YOU THINK TOO MUCH!!!!!" I replied "You don't think enough". At that time, I came to the conclusion that Faith is the opposite of Logic. Faith is proof to a person with no facts, that is true because they believe it to be so. Logic is proof with all the facts, and things are true because it is proven to be so.
Which is the right mindset? Depends on who you are.................
Wow, sorry bout that peeps. I do rattle on sometimes, hehe. If I have offended anyone, I am truly deeply sorry. Tell me if I have, and I will make amends.

Kind of like, how people say that God has no beginning and he's always been here. It's something that is too complex for any human mind to truly comprehend. But back to what Mr. Briggs said. I once had a teacher in high school, that said that Hell is made up to scare us into being good and following "the plan." That no FATHER in his right mind would throw his children into a pit of fire, or torture them in any manner, no matter how great their sins were. Makes sense though doesn't it? Kind of falls into the likes of purgatory I guess.

I've had this talk with my husband many times, we generally don't agree on it, but we respect each other's opinion.
I'm not a big fan of organized religion, I like the idea of faith and a belief system, I just don't like the idea of getting together to enforce it. I believe there's something out there, but personally I just can't put a name on it, too many different religions and in the end, in my opinion, it all comes down to the same thing. My family is catholic, being sent to a catholic school didn't help me like organized religion one bit, those were some of the worst years of my life, I just felt like I was being forced into something that I had little say in.

If only my brain was so organized.

He? Hehe. Well, no beginning and no end and always been here? Just exactly like matter cannot be created or destroyed and has always been here? It can be broken down into energy, but that's it. Wow, God as a Scientific term. Yep.

And everything IS and probably always has been, composed of matter. It does make sense, I must admit. And I refer to God as HE only out of habit.

I agree with your "He" statement. Just goes to show that religion and faith makes sense. If it is pounded into your brain from birth, it will be truth to you. I had to fight through a lot of my own thinking to form my own opinions. If I didn't see eye to eye with those around me, I didn't have the "Faith". If I was raised my whole life and told the color of the grass was black, then it would be black to me. Damn, colors don't even really exist. Only the brain perceives color, for all atoms are transparent. Weird.

Your right. It is pounded into your brain from birth. I mean, if you had never heard of the light, or GOD, with a near death experience, would you still see the light? exdev: But what has ALWAYS turned me against big religions, for example, such as Christianity, is this:
They ALWAYS have a positive excuse for anything. If their mom dies of cancer, God had bigger plans for her. But if she beats cancer, God was with her that day.
Never understood that personally...

Never understood that personally... Well it kind of makes sense in a world where God is in control, unless the devil or human frailty corrupted things.... Besides it just sounds better in a solemn moment not to blame physical or human error, more peaceful in a way.
I dunno about the near-death experience, I believe God may simply appear to people in the way that would be most comforting and familiar to them . Anyhow, I couldn't say for sure considering I haven't had a truly near-death experience...
I haven't really had anything pounded into my brain from birth either, I am most familiar with the Christian religion though it wasn't actively taught to me... Other than that I was basically raised on "homogenus TV faith": forces of light, forces of dark, grim reaper and such XD
