14-month old Gets Chopstick Stuck in Nose

BEIJING -- A 14-month-old boy in China learned a tough lesson of what not to stick up your nose.
Li Jingchao was playing with chopsticks when he fell and one of the sticks pierced his nose.
His mother was in another room at the time and heard her son crying.
She went to a local clinic, but doctors there warned her it was too dangerous to try and remove the chopstick because it may cause massive bleeding, CNN reported.
"It touched upon the deep area of his brain, four centimeters of the chopstick was inside his skull" Doctor Sun Wei told CNN.
A relative drove the boy and his parents from their small village, hundreds of miles to a hospital in Beijing, where neurosurgeons prepared for surgery.
The boy's head was shaved, and doctors were ready to open his skull to control the bleeding they anticipated when pulling out the chopstick.
But, much to everyone's surprise, the stick came straight out without any problems.
Doctors say the boy was lucky. If the chopstick had gone in any deeper it would have caused life-threatening bleeding. Had it gone a little more to either side, he would have been permanently paralyzed.
