A 29-year-old man faces charges for a disgusting crime. Police say he attacked a young woman using his own semen.
Mike Hellgren has details of that attack and the suspect's past.
It happened on the Montgomery College Campus in Takoma Park. The man charged lives just around the corner and has been found guilty of indecent exposure in the past.
Police took Oritse Ayu into custody for committing a stomach-turning crime. They say while a woman was studying in a library on Montgomery College's Takoma Park campus, he walked past her while masturbating, striking her arm with semen.
She then turned and saw his genitalia exposed.
He quickly fled the scene.
"We've contacted some of the local schools to see if they have had any incidents as well," said Takoma Park Police Detective Jeff Demuth.
Ayu is charged with indecent exposure and second-degree assault. Police tracked him to his home in Baltimore. No one answered his door Wednesday.
Investigators not only used his DNA, but also surveillance video and his car registration to make the arrest.
"The surveillance led us to a vehicle registration that came back to a rental car company. That came back to him being the renter of the vehicle, which helped us identify who the suspect was," Demuth said.
WJZ searched court records revealing Ayu pleaded guilty to indecent exposure in 2004. He paid a $500 fine and court costs and was sentenced to six days in jail. Published reports say that was linked to incidents at the University of Maryland College Park.
Ayu's case followed the arrest of Michael Edwards Jr. earlier this year. That was also in Montgomery County. Police say Edwards filled a bottle with semen and sprayed it at women while they shopped, including outside a Giant in Gaithersburg.
In Ayu's case, police say the victim was cooperative in helping them solve her case. They're not sure if she's the only victim and are investigating similar reports in that area.
Ayu has a court hearing scheduled for next month.
