HammerfanFakery Ruins TV Ghost Shows!
#1
Do any of you also think that fakery and feigned ghostly activity ruins the credibilty of TV paranormal shows? I mean, for God's sake, why can't they do a GENUINE investigation for once, without having to restort to, say, camera crew throwing stones around and pretending that it is the work of a poltergeist?

I used to enjoy TV ghost shows when they first started, but now, after hearing all the pathetic chicanery that goes on behind the scenes - all the faked ghostly activity that is incessantly fed to the gullible viewers - I no longer give them any real credence. Shame, really, as a lot of these ghost crews do visit some really creepy places in their investigations.

This brings the analogy of The Boy Who Cried Wolf to mind, meaning that when any of these TV shows DO actually manage to capture a GENUINE ghost on camera or tape, then many people will think they are just faking again and so won't believe them.

Yes, these claims of trickery probably ARE true. After all, it's more than likely that TV ghost hunters are bound to sex up a few scenes, as it makes good television. Can you imagine them just doing the vigil without being tempted to feign the odd bang or two?

Generally, real life paranormal investigations produce nothing, so obviously this must incline them towards tweaking the odd ghostly sound or two, to make the vigil less boring. But it's wrong. They should not do that. I would rather watch a genuine investigation rather than somebody manufacturing ghostly activity. Destoys the credibility of the whole show, in my opinion.

There were filming one of those shows, not specifically the one you're talking about, but one of those paranormal activity shows here in Chicago at a cemetery. They rigged the set up, added in a few bumps here and there and generally produced a movie but called it real. I agree with you Hammer, "They should not do that. I would rather watch a genuine investigation rather than somebody manufacturing ghostly activity. Destoys the credibility of the whole show, in my opinion." I have a hard time believing in paranormal activity as is.

I HATE that when they fake bumps other purportedly "ghostly" noises. Ruins the whole show.

If you want a good, realistic ghost program, I can highly recommend the American TV show hosted by Patrick McNee (of The Avengers). I have them all in a dvd boxed set, and especially love the one on Hollywood ghosts.

Honestly, I think all the ghost-hunting TV shows out there are staged. Real, hardened paranormal activity evidence isn't shown on TV, YouTube or movies. They are found on reliable paranormal sites as well as archives that people have that aren't released. I have a tape where my friend and I snuck into a cemetery and saw the haunted gravesite of a 7-year-old. No bumps or creeps but on the playback, there is this eerie whispering/static sound that sounds like it's saying something. It's not on TV or on the Internet.
