I thought of this whilst watching Crawlspace, in which the character inevitably skulking around the titular space agitates his victims by clacking a metal ball with a small knife...

...admittedly, it is something that doesn't immediately jump to mind as "intimidating," however, it did make me think of what other freaky stalkers from films did to screw with their prey, or for that matter recurring things filmmakers used to mess with their audiences. The Strangers use a variety of weird noises to fuck with those they mess with, the killer from Deep Red plays a children's song (Though they have an ulterior motive), Freddy Krueger (On somewhat rare occasion) scraped his glave against metal, Jigsaw, in a reversal, took a piece of flesh after killing someone, and the director of Friday the 13th added that empty echo to the soundtrack...

Anything creepy you can think of?
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”
