If you scare easily might I suggest starting out with something halfway comedic but not entirely silly, like House (1986) or Waxwork? Perhaps something along the lines of Neon Maniacs that's OK but a little badly directed? Or something more "actioner" like Demon Knight or Aliens?
Or, if you want to jump right in and savor your more fragile times as an early horror fan, I'd suggest the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Friday the 13th, which are both HUGELY scary classics!
