No, there is no haunting and yes, there is a real sense of danger as in "Oh fuck, this guy is gonna die and it's not going to be pretty." And if I remember correctly, there wasn't a single jumpscare in the entire film. No cheap scares, but they did take some tired tricks and put fresh new spins on them.
