Phantasm was great but I love Carpenter's work on The Fog. The Ring had a very moody tone to it and Goblin's Susperia is probably one of the best rock sounding soundtrack. John Harrison had that amazing campy synth music in Creepshow and had a sort of adventurous but dark track for Day of the Dead. Wendy Carlos did a fantastic job with The Shining.
As far as modern scores go, I really enjoyed Douglas Pipes score for Trick 'r Treat. Charlie Clouser has been dishing out some great tracks as well as Marco Belstrami. Patrick Doyle's operatic score for Needful Things is fantastic, and Howard Shore's composition for The Fly is epic. I am really enjoying Wojciech Kilar's Dracula score and lets not forget the jazzy score for The Thing by Ennio Morricone.
To name a few.
