WARSAW, Poland â Polish police say they have recovered 11 tons of human blood plasma that originated in the U.S. and was destined for Austria.
Police spokesman Artur Chorazy says the truck was stolen in Germany while the driver made a rest stop. It was then taken across the border into Poland, where police recovered it Wednesday.
Police footage showed salmon-colored blood plasma packed in boxes that originated in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Chorazy said police believe thieves stole it in hopes of selling it elsewhere in Eastern Europe. He said they failed to make any arrests in the case but are still investigating.
Plasma is used to treat a wide variety of medical disorders. Police were not able to say what kind of market might exist in Eastern Europe for stolen plasma.
