Well they did play off a paranoid tone, and They Live was more speculative whereas Thing was something you could see happening in a nightmare world

I love They Live. I truly do. But not only is the Thing FAR scarier, it's just a better film. Better writing, better acting all around superior to about 95% of films out there...including They Live...
