Do you think Rob Zombie's Halloween remakes are better than the originals?

Oh man, I don't even remember the prologue. I think my brain just kind of forced it out of my brain. I remember his little Simpsons disease and the fact that he banged his mom. I was about done right there.

As some of you on here know we've had this discussion/debate before.....No it was not better than the original, but i didnt think it was a shitfest like most people. I hated the kid though, and part two shoulda never even happened. Now that i think about it ive never heard anyone say that the remake was better

You're pretty much spot on. I think he killed his sister with plastic wrapping paper than bludgeoned his mom with a rolling pin, made Christmas themed cookies from the skin off her back and ate them. Very dark, very well shot but it should have only been that.

Yeah, the Christmas cookies thing was kinda cool but by that point I was basically just torturing myself on purpose. It wasn't even for entertainment purposes anymore. It was just kind of a, "I have to see why this guy is yellow and had sex with his mom..."

Hahahaha!!!!

Call if coincidence, but that's why I watched it too. Then, when I found out that he had some kind of skin disorder… I turned it off and watched the Fox channel Sunday lineup.

Can't say I blame you. I should've done...anything else.

Devil's Rejects was pretty damn good. Those are the types of horror flicks Zombie should be making.

Devil's Rejects is probably Zombie's best work to date, but I still didn't think it was anything special. Zombie should stop writing dialogue altogether; possibly just in general. I think he'd be a stronger director if he had someone come in and write a story (and dialogue) that wasn't absolutely atrocious.

Obviously they aren't better than the originals. But thye aren't terribly horrible films either.

I respect him for taking Halloween 2 in a completely batshit crazy direction, as opposed to bending to the wills of the study, which you can tell he did with the first Halloween.

The first Halloween wasn't completely all bad. It had some interesting dynamics and a lot going for it. As far as the remakes of the big three slashers are concerned, it's ahead of Friday the 13th in quality and lightyears ahead of that piece of trash Elm Street remake.

Agreed, Zombie should continue to direct his own original work. Anybody see his Woolite commercial he just directed. Pretty creepy stuff for a commercial about laundry detergent.

I don't think I was pissed off about the direction so much as the characters. I hated Laurie, Loomis and young Michael. Three characters that are essentially the entire film and he had to make one a party-hard bitch, another an egotistical doctor, and a whiney brat who kills animals. Zombie is a great director, as evidenced through the Halloween films, but he shouldn't have been allowed to write them. His intentions were great but that kind of "white horse" mythological bullshit shouldn't be in a Halloween movie. If any supernatural element was allowed, it should be vague like the original. Gives it an ominous tone.

I agree with the supernatural elements being too over the top. I honestly think Zombie was so upset with studio interference on the first film that he just said fuck it with the second movie at times.

I agree with your assessments of Loomis and young Michael. But I don't think Laurie was strictly a party hard bitch. The theatrical cut of H2 makes it seem that way, but I found the additional footage in the Director's Cut to give her a little more development and show a more damaged side to her trying to break free from what happened. I respect Zombie for doing what I consider a true "re-imagining," akin to a number of Dracula films, in which portrayal of the characters is changed the most as opposed to plot
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”

I will say that despite all the studio interference, Zombie managed to pull through, which is admirable. I haven't seen the director's cut but as it stands, the only character I ever felt sorry for in Halloween II was Strode's dad. I might check it out. Personally, Zombie has a profound love for exploitation and I think he should stick with that… it's his schtick and I'm fine with that.

I can't answer the question, because I haven't seen either of Zombie's Halloween films.

Carpenter's Halloween is my all-time favorite horror film, and I didn't think it needed updating/remaking/re-imagining. I still feel that way today. Instead, I wanted a sequel to Resurrection that picked up where it left off (Michael waking up). Then, you could've had a setting reminiscent to Halloween 2, which would've been really interesting to see.

So, basically I'm saying: I will never watch Zombie's Halloween remakes.

The first one is worth checking out if your curious but you can stay away from the second one. The second one is just awful.
