If rape's out, I'm in. I've been playing for 10+ years & I've ran a few games, so I can probably be of help. Slasher or zombies are cool. Sometimes it's best to find a favorite movie/book & use that as a base. It's easy to build off of a world/story that already is workable. Trust me, the players will go in ways you never thought of.

That's what I was thinking of, a mash-up type of thing. Smile I don't know many great slashers to creatively work from...

EDIT: Unless it was something weirder like The Strangers, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or Neon Maniacs! Smile

The Strangers is good. I'm not a big slasher fan, so I'm sure someone else can give you better info on them. Zombies are easier. The classic, Night of the Living Dead, or anything by Max Brooks would give a solid base for a campaign. You can always start of easy and build on it.

I could do zombies, it just sounds a bit cliche, unless we had some uber-reanimator-zombies there. I feel a strong villain would be a really good element, in a normal zombie scenario you've got thousands of unidentifiable weak-to-average ones.

Bad guy with minions. Like the Island of Dr. Moure but with weres, or an insane dna scientist who discovered a way to re-animate corpse and control them, or a woman who drives men insane with her beauty and controls them and tries to take over the world, (nope, might turn to porn), or a voodoo inspired story, or demons, kinda a heaven vs. hell thing, but god and his buddies are no where in sight, or vampires, (blah, not that I don't like vamps, but waaaaaaaay overdone.) We definity need a group of baddies, or it would be a short rp.

OR...................How bout something based on the H.P. Lovecraft Mythos? Insanity and Darkness and Elder Gods and Fish People and monsters and people with cones for heads.......yeah

Naww, to the extreme latter idea. I am "that one fan" who knows little to nothing about those stories Tongue

I agree on vampires, been done to undeath. Voodoo and HvH stories are less-done, though I don't know but the basics of religion in general. The Dr. Moreau story is my favorite of your ideas: Gives us an easy way to start the story and continue it, plus a plot not really explored that much. Lotsa different shit could pop up.

@Bojangles: I was thinking of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre myself for the slasher idea, it itself has multiple maniacs (Well the '74 franchise anyhow), plus it does follow an established story, as Rosemary suggested.

There is always the option of a closed door type murder, with a twist. Kinda like Scream or All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (which finally has a release dateSmile). Some of the characters will die. But, ADD people will want to leave, hence ADD. Or, a The Descent style survival game. Hoards are hard to control, so zombies would be difficult. Cabin Fever with people going nuts, you can private message the nutty people to tell them they're crazy & let them act accordingly. (Loki likes that one.) Then, all the players have the possibility of being the monster. The Ruins is another good one, but a little more difficult. Or, The Mist. Another survival game.
It may be best if people have a character. It's easy to distance yourself if it's not really you. You get less offended if your Character dies instead of You dying. Although, Rose is not really me. Although, Loki is definitely Loki. Confusing...Anyway. A few simple guidelines would be useful. Maybe let them list their supplies and have a list that is available "on set". According to the type of story, the list would be different. A Cabin Fever game would probably have hunting rifles. A smoker will likely have a source or 2 of fire. But, you wouldn't want a vegetarian, pacifist having a bazooka in their hiking backpack.
Just throwing stuff out. Hope it helps a littleSmile

Agreed.

Or how about The Thing? Group Paranoia.

I dunno. There is already a "Thing" faniste that has RPs, so it would hardly be original. Cabin Fever would have limited options (Just run and get infected 1-by-1 probably), and I would imagine so would The Mist (Though I like the latter better, a lot of the ideas there were exhausted in the film IMO).

If hordes would be hard to control, wouldn't The Descent be hard as well? Other than that I think that could be a cool idea.

I was thinking of using characters all along, never been in an RP where you represent your own self o_O . A supply list is a great idea though!

In the Desent, most of the time, there where maybe 3 or 4 at a time. Sometimes only one, though in the endgame, LOTS. I think it could be a good model too.

Hmm, so I suppose The Descent is among our main contenders right now! (Support from Loki, Rosemary, and me) What do others think?

Well, a Descent type story, riiiiight? Not The Descent. New baddies in that form. A good frame work. I'm sure that's what yer saying, but just wanna make sureSmile

I dunno, Rosemary said an established mythos would be easier (New characters either way), though a "Descent" type story with new monsters could be easily done, since they are pretty much interchangeable animal-killers anyway.

So does anyone else have ideas? The discussion died out!
