R.I.P Zelda Rubinstein

Everyone’s favorite creepy grandmother has just gone to the light.

For older horror fans or pop culture junkies, we remember Zelda Rubinstein’s turn as Tangina in 1982’s “Poltergeist.” Despite standing just barely above the heads of the children in the cast, she casually commanded our presence with her eerie pronouncements in a tiny, almost child-like voice: she was the Yoda of the supernatural world.

Zelda Rubinstein passed on last night of a heart attack. She was 76.

Following the success of “Poltergeist,” Rubinstein became a horror genre staple not only in theaters, but also on the smaller screen, most recently as the narrator on “The Scariest Places on Earth.” Her last movie role was in one of my favorite movies, 2006’s “Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon.”
