best horror franchise

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Part one was classic, part 2 was fun, exciting, etc. Part three, was my favorite of the sequels, and the most gritty, dirty, and dark sequel in my opinion. Part 4, I feel as if it's very under-rated for what it is. Don't see why SO many people hate it. The remake, is hands down the best remake to hit the horror world, and the prequel, can hold it's own. So there ya have it, my choice, is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I def agree with the simple praises of 1 & 2, and can appreciate 3 as well. I like part 4 for its comedy/"so bad it's good" type charm, but other than that it's not good. On the subject of the remake... I don't agree. It was good as a slasher but it didn't have a bit of the raw atmosphere the original had; much too Hollywood for my tastes, characters (both heroes and villains) were made more developed but right at the same time more cliche and too many scenes were framed too "fancy"/"epic" for a TCM film. I guess it's cool for a new take on the tale but not as an actual remake. In my opinion, the original's just too perfect to straight-up remake
