Pretty sure this was going on long before Avatar lol. I personally don't see anything wrong with 3D, I'd much rather see a film in 3D then see a shitty sequel come out, or a shitty remake. Not to say all remakes are horrible, but the vast majority are. Battle Royale is one of my favorite films, and I personally think it'd be awesome to have a 3D version of it. Just like huge fans of certain films want the Director's Cut, The Special Edition, The 500th Anniversary Boxed Set, and yeah you get the picture. I'm all for it. The studios are usually the ones in it for the money, not the creative minds behind it (unless it's Michael Bay) so if all goes according to plan, we both win. They make money, we get entertained. It's a pretty simple cycle, but I guess it doesn't work if you don't like the 3D pictures. Nothing will beat seeing 3D in theaters though. It's really annoying when people watch it at home with their cheap 3D glasses and expect the same experience.
As for the 3D televisions, I'm sure the hope is that everyone catches on to all of this hype over it, and starts making all their films 3D compatible. Not necessarily make the film IN 3D, but allow it to be watched as a normal version, or a 3D version. No biggie.
