I still don't know about "horror". King is a brilliant author, but I really didn't see any truly scary bits in The Mist.
And the reason I didn't like the ending wasn't due to offense over what happened, it was because it seemed just so apparent Mr. Darabont just put the ending in to get street-cred; Not that it was downbeat, but that it seemed superficially-downbeat (Either that or there was a truly artistic reason he had it end that way that I just can't see...)
