"unrated" translates to "will scare you WORSE than R so leave the scardy-cats at home with a pizza"?

Not necessarily. The MPAA doesn't give a shit about people getting scared. It's the gore, blood, cursing, violence, nudity, vulgarity...etc. that determines a rating.

To have an unrated film, means the movie didn't get MPAA approval....which then gives the artist/ director freedom to portray anything.....ANYTHINNNNNG.

Adam Green was fine releasing Hatchet 2 straight to DVD just so he wouldn't have to deal with the MPAA again and risk compromising his movie by watering down FX. But thankfully, AMC movie theaters were behind his film and decided to pick up his movie as is, unrated, and show in their theaters. This is a first. And a test of unrated films to see if people really would watch them. That's why its important to go out and support this film. Yanno what I'm sprayin'? GO!! Big Grin Cicken & biscuits & gravy!!!

I have read the article but this sort of thing happens all the time. You can sign as many petitions to stop it but the MPAA won't do anything unless they finally grow a heart. I support all of this but there isn't a point. It's a loosing battle because studios and distributors have the ultimate control.

Could help theaters grow balls even if not the MPAA >.>

Its all about the money honey. The theaters don't want to risk paying a fine. If they didn't get fined, then it wouldn't be an issue.

Or if they made enough money to make up for being fined, it would also be good.

I'm still confused on how the MPAA can fine movie theaters for showing unrated movies? That's bullshit and trying to censor what we watch. It should be up the theater chain on what they want to show and what they don't want to.

Welcome to the beautiful world of censorship in America.

If a theater could play whatever they wanted, then what would stop them from playing say, a snuff film with the worst things u can think of, and its unrated. And this movie theater is right in back of a middle school where the kids go after school to watch the newest flicks? Not cool?

Just playing devils advocate...censorship goes both ways.

I read an article today that said it was pulled for not making enough money.

If it was pulled from not making enough money, that would make sense. The studio wouldn't pay to ship it nationally if they knew it would bomb or not make back it's budget. Perhaps this whole unrated thing was conjured up to disguise the fact that it would be a flop it it were released.

That's the only thing that I have a bone to pick with studios. They have an original idea in their hands and yet they don't want to market it because they are afraid it won't be a box office hit.

I don't know about that...AMC already had the movie, so shipping has nothing to do with it. Bottom line, the AMC theaters got nervous about being fined and the fact that the film wasn't generating revenue to offset any fines. Perhaps part publicity stunt because they knew this was all gonna go down with the MPAA, so free marketing for dvd sales.

Support the movie when it goes on demand and DVD. Fuck giant studios.

I wasn't too big of a fan of the first Hatchet but I liked it. There are a lot of other indie horror movies out there that don't get the budget they deserve.
