It was only released in 68 theaters! Cut the movie the break. It had little to zero marketing and of course only horror fans would watch it so what the hell did AMC expect?
10-05-2010, 05:09 PM
It has now hit CNN news....total publicity stunt....if it really isn't....then AMC are a bunch of giant douchers. I can't imagine adam green not signing some sort of contract with them that states they can pull his movie at will...they knew this and were fine with it because he was gonna release it straight to dvd anyway. Now people who never heard of hatchet are gonna pick up the dvd...well done mr green.

He just tweeted saying they were pulling the movies from theaters on Friday night so it has nothing to do with the box office. If this isn't a publicity stunt, then its really sad that its the year 2010 and were still pulling movies from theaters for being too violent.

Hatchet 2 is still playing out here in Hollywood at the Mann Chinese Theater.

There was an article on this in the New York Post, I think. If I got the gist of the story correct, a lot of the theaters pulled the movie because they were afraid of getting fined for showing an unrated movie. It seems that it was also in part to the precautions they had to take to make sure that no one under-aged got into the auditorium. I can't find the article now so I can't say for sure but it seems like it was just cost prohibitive to show the movie. Whatever the reasons, there are some positives to take away from this. First, and most obviously, this is great box material when the DVD comes out. Two, with any luck, this really illuminates how flawed the system is. Not that we didn't know this already but maybe something in the way of reform comes out of all this.

I thought if a movie is unrated any age is allowed to watch it?
10-06-2010, 04:46 PM
Yes.....
So theaters can get fined for playing unrated films? Who fines them? The MPAA bastards? Retarded!

NicoleMayCanaday Wrote:Yes..... I couldn't find exactly who or what would do the fining. Since the MPAA is a group put together by the seven largest studios (Disney, Sony, Paramount, Universal., Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox and until recently, MGM), there may be some kind of agreement between the distributors, studios and the MPAA where they have to adhere to certain standards or be fined.

...if you produce an indie film, you're fucked. Unless u get picked up at some movie festival.
Fuck the studio giants! Fuck them hard up the ass with a big black rubber dong. I'm tired of them DICKtating whatmovies I want to watch. Don't make me go philly...

But none of those studios produced Hatchet 2 or distributed it and pretty sure none of them own AMC so how could they fine them? And plus I Spit On Your Grave unrated comes out Friday, and I don't see that getting pulled or fined.

I absolutely agree. This is probably a huge marketing stunt to hype the movie up even more. With backing from Dread Central (who seems to kiss Green's ass a lot), it's meant to spark public outcry.

This pissed me off so bad. It was released Friday, a guy from work saw it Saturday and hated it which made me want to see it even more, and I went to the theater on Monday. Flyers for the movie were still up all over the theater and then they tell me it was pulled and wouldn't give me a reason why. A few months later, I saw it and pretty much hated it. As far as Adam Green movies go, Frozen is probably his best effort thus far.

Hatchet 2 was forgettable rubbish with the added annoyance of its stupid 'campaign'. Adam Green has a tendency for the contrived on way too many levels. But Frozen was surprisingly good.

I haven't watched the first Hatchet in ages, but I do own it and I considered it a guilty pleasure for a long time. Frozen wasn't even that great to me, but it's very different from the rest of Green's catalog and does attempt to tell a solid story rather than be a comedy with horror tacked on the last half hour or a terrible movie with incredible gore.
