jgordon-on your statement about friday the 13th 2009-i thought that it was a pretty good movie ,however i like the originals
11-10-2009, 12:14 PM
I liked the originals,
but the first one wasn't no where near as good as the remake.

I enjoyed the remake, for the most part. No desire to ever see it again, really, but I dug it.
I will say this, though: the blonde at the end (riding the jock) had the best tits in movie history. ![]() J.N.

Heh I feel like I'm going to get shot here but....
I finally watched the remake the other day. Hated it. HATED IT. The back story of his mother is reduced to a 3 minute intro, the gore that made the first one stand out is lacking, and for god sakes, Jason does NOT RUN after his victims. He walks....that's why it's terrifying. It also seemed like they tried too damn hard to make this trendy, filling it with every drug, tech and sex cliche they could think of. I think the most aggravating part is it completely lacked the element of surprise the first one had. The use of music & noise usually implies what's coming, not to mention you usually see Jason before the killing occurs. The worst thing is - you feel no sympathy for these victims - you were rooting for them in the original series, now you're rooting for Jason to hurry up and pick these annoying cusses off. I'm sorry - don't hurt me. Granted, I was never much of a Friday the 13th fan to begin with (although I loved Jason Takes Manhattan!) - I think I'm just getting disgusted at all these remakes and have a bad feeling they're going to trash my beloved Nightmare on Elm Street soon as well. I did, however, really dig the Halloween remake by Zombie. *runs and hides*

I know I don't like the looks of the new Freddy Krueger so far. I hate the new look. He looks like a damn alien, and the voice is atrocious. I'm trying not to be biased, I really am, but to me, Freddy IS Robert ENglund, and I have no idea why they felt this had to be remade. Remake "Freddy's Dead" if you want to "fix" something.

I think the whole mentality that brings that crud is that filmmakers feel the killer him/herself is what brings the fans in, and not any fright they actually induce... (In many cases, they're unfortunately right) However, what's wrong with Jason running? That very thing makes part 2 one of the best of the series and makes part 3 a lot better than it would be otherwise. I can also get behind the reasoning of not having Mrs. Voorhees take a big role in this one; non-fans would get pissed if Jason was upstaged and regular fans would see it coming. I think having her own menace be a prologue to everything works (Or it could. Of course I haven't seen it yet).
âThe Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audienceâs deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... Iâd better stop before I give myself nightmaresâ

(In many cases, they're unfortunately right) I suppose nothing is really wrong with him running - I could throw that complaint into any Jason movie, old or new or slasher film. It's just much more scary when you are running your ass off, falling, stumbling, and no matter how hard you try, he's right there, slowly moving after you. It implies that feeling of no escape & panic. I can understand leaving Mrs Voorhees with such minor screen time as well - People know JASON. Friday the 13th is about JASON. Many younger horror fans arnt aware she was in the series or really don't care about her. They want to see the 8' tall guy in the hockey mask with a machete. This probably ties in with why directors seem they couldn't care less about making the audience sympathetic to the victims - they're not paying to see them. I totally understand it...I just don't have to like it ![]() I really feel like I should go put on some slippers and go scream at neighborhood kids to get off my lawn right about now....

I don't know why they didn't bring Englund back, honestly. Also, I think the new Freddy looks AND sounds like the grinch that stole Christmas. http://www.horrortrailer.com/file/878-th...-2009.html watch about the first five minutes of Episode 2 and you'll get my thoughts on the ANOES remake so far.

Well, we do know why - they've said as much: They wanted to do a "reboot and re-envisioning" (God I love buzzwords!!!). That includes a new face of freddy, a new style. I have a feeling it will be like the "new" GTO - a hunk of hyped, steaming shit.
Englund spoke about it as well, although you have to wonder how much of it is him being humble. He was pretty blunt, saying he's over 60 years old now, and he can't give the role the energy he used to. It has to be aggravating to see your most well known role go to someone else, regardless. With a role like Jason, this really isn't as much of an issue. He has no real personality, & he doesn't speak. All you have to be is tall Oh & that's another issue I had with this remake - the kills lacked a sense of style! Hang the girl in the sleeping bag over the fire so she burned? Yawn. The Jason I knew would have beat her against the tree until that bag and her head popped like a pimple.

It implies that feeling of no escape & panic.Well I guess issue #1 is more a matter of personal preference then; I'd probably get a bit cocky with a "slow killer"; run like a bitch but secretly keep thinking "hey, I'll ditch this guy eventually and when that happens I'm gonna rig a house full of traps!". With a fast stalker you only have the time to duck behind a door, hoping they didn't sneak a peek at you going in and aren't about to play around finding you before tearing you to bits XD On the latter points however, yeah I also don't like taking one element and making it the "focus" of the series despite getting the mentality and the necessity of making a "high-concept" remake that way; I still think the original F13 is the most frightening and therefore the best, even though with the different killer it doesn't "fit in" with the "regular" films in the canon XP. ...I've personally had the need to yell at the neighborhood kids since I was about 16, is that wrong?
