It seemed fine to me, I actually enjoyed it.
I mean it was a damn good twist, that no one seen coming!
Yeah no one saw it coming, but really to me there was nothing there to found it/give reason for it... It was like Frank just said "Hey, you know what? The secondary characters all die and just to make it suck for the main guy, he's rescued"... Now if there was something creepily ironic about the scenario, like the dad saving his kid's life at the beginning or the army supposedly dying about halfway in only to have them save the guy at the end, it would be (Or at least look) more cleverly done.
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”

Hell, it was done for an emotional response. Isn't that what movies are for? And music and art, and all types of stuff. I liked it.

I agree.
I mean if it didn't make your emotions go hay-wire,
then that would just be lame.

I enjoyed the whole movie and the ending was just the icing on the cake for me.

That would have been cool. I mean, maybe a rumor in the store that the military isn't of existence anymore.

However, these people were simply cut off. Even thought it wasn't said, it made it feel like there was no help out there. If there was, they certainly weren't aware of it. They had to just try. After driving around, running out all of the gas, they found nothing but death. His wife, dead. Children on the school bus, dead. Etc...

And isn't that all what really matters?

I thought The Mist owned Cloverfield. In Cloverfield you dont really get a chance to develop a liking for any of the characters and lets not forget the fact that Cloverfield was so easily predictable, being that the movie has been done a dozen times already. And I agree with all who said the emotion factor in The Mist was very high. One scene that stood out big to me was when the lady wanted to get home to her kids and no one would help. As she looked at them one after another and asked they just looked down in fear of going out there, it was a pretty good scene. The other thing that The Mist had was the one character that you hated. That holy roller bible thumping doomsday theorist woman made me sick.
I say....
The Mist 8/10
Cloverfield 6/10

Cloverfield - Not the best, but If you watch the Docs. And specials on the making of it you'll like it more. [Made to be essentially the American Godzilla.] 6.8/10

The Mist - It gets my vote for many reasons. 8.2/10
