LilithCorey Haim: Mom Speaks Out

Reports: Corey Haim's mom says actor died of enlarged heart, other health issues

March 12, 2010 | 10:00 am

L.A. County coroner’s officials said Friday that the cause of death of actor Corey Haim was still being investigated, and they declined to confirm reports that Haim had an enlarged heart, pulmonary congestion and water in his lungs when he died.

“We are not confirming anything,” said Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter. “The cause of death is still pending.”

Toxicology reports could take two months, coroner’s officials said. Winter said “preliminary [autopsy] information” had been released to Judy Haim, the deceased actor’s mother, and she may have released details to the media.

According to wire reports, Judy Haim told the entertainment news show "Access Hollywood" that her son had an enlarged heart, pulmonary congestion and water in his lungs when he collapsed.

The Associated Press reported Friday that authorities recovered four prescription drug bottles bearing Haim’s name, “but found nothing illegal while investigating his death.”

Haim, who was known to have battled drug addiction for years, died Wednesday at his mother’s Burbank apartment. He was 38 years old.

Dr. Drew Could Have Helped Corey Haim, Says Dr. Drew

Posted Mar 11th 2010 5:09PM by Bob Sassone

Not sure which TV doctor/psychologist/superhero has a bigger ego, Dr. Drew or Dr. Phil, but this week I'm going with the former. Dr. Drew Pinsky says that he and people from his show 'Celebrity Rehab' reached out to Corey Haim several times over the past few years and every time Haim angrily rejected their pleas for him to be on the show, saying that he didn't need help.

Now, beyond the fact that Dr. Drew is assuming that Haim died of a drug overdose before autopsy results are even complete*, I think he doesn't quite understand (or maybe he does and doesn't care) how much of an exploitative guy he is. So Haim didn't want to appear on your show where you get celebrities to look awful while they live in a house and try to break their addictions? Is that surprising? If I was an addict I wouldn't want to do that show either.

There seems to be some bizarre notion that because people like Dr. Drew and Dr. Phil are on TV, their medical credentials must be better than other people in their profession (after all, they wouldn't be on TV if they weren't the best!).

How many experts in that field are there in the U.S.? Thousands and thousands? Why do people have to talk to the ones that are on television? Not only might you not be getting the best help, you're opening yourself up to public ridicule and reality show exploitation (didn't Haim already go through a horrible reality show experience with 'The Two Coreys?'). I'm sure Dr. Drew sincerely wants to help these people, but there's an exploitation factor here too.

Should Haim have gotten help? Of course. Maybe he even tried. But that help didn't have to be televised on VH1.

Yes, we can all speculate about what happened and we might even be right, but I think it's wrong for someone in Dr. Drew's position to do it publicly.

I didnt know or hear about that.

Can You Spare Some Cash for Corey Haim's Funeral?

Today 2:57 PM PST by Josh Grossberg

Corey Haim is going home, and his family is hoping fans help pay for the ride.

After being autopsied yesterday, the body of the '80s teen heartthrob has been released to his family," Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter confirmed to E! News. It is currently being prepared by an L.A.-area mortuary for shipment back to his native Toronto for interment.

"The mortuary did call to pick it up. Services will be in Canada," Winter said.

A statement on Haim's official website did not specify when the funeral would take place, beyond "next week." But Haim's family is reaching out to fans to contribute to a memorial fund that would help cover some of the costs.

"Corey's funeral will be taking place next week in his hometown of Toronto...Due to the unexpected expenses of transporting his body to Canada for final resting, a fund has been set up to help his family," the statement reads.

While the coroner has declined to comment on the possible cause of death, pending toxicology results in four to six weeks, the department has reiterated that four bottles of prescription pills were recovered near Haim's body and no illegal drugs were found.

The Lost Boys actor had been suffering from flulike symptoms when he died Wednesday at the age of 38 at Burbank's famed Oakwood Apartments. He was staying with his cancer-stricken mother, Judy, when he collapsed early in the morning and was unable to be revived.

Judy Haim told Access Hollywood yesterday that she was informed by the coroner that her son died of pulmonary congestion due to an enlarged heart, and his lungs had been filled with water at the time of his death.

Corey Haim's Stuff for Sale to Pay for Funeral

Today 5:23 PM PST by Natalie Finn and Lindsay Miller

This is so sad.

Three days after his sudden death, pieces of Corey Haim's T-shirt-heavy wardrobe and other possessions are being auctioned off on eBay to help defray the cost of the late actor's funeral.

"They were at Corey's apartment boxing up his things, saying they were going to take them to the mission," Scott Schwartz, the friend of Haim who's running the auction, tells E! News.

"And I sat [Haim's mom] Judy down and I said, 'I know this will sound horrible, but I do eBay as my job. This might be a way to raise money for the funeral.' And she started to cry and she said even $200 or $300 would help."

Schwartz says that they have raised more than $1,500 in the last 24 hours, and he has yet to post Haim's Xbox, DVD collection and keyboard.

"He was 38 and he had maybe a half a closet full of clothes and a drawer full of T-shirts," Schwartz says. "That was it. [His father] gave him $500 last month to cover his rent."

Corey Feldman, Haim's self-proclaimed "best friend," said on Larry King Live Wednesday that his buddy was living month-to-month with his mom, with not even enough money to own a car.

Haim's family is also reaching out via their fallen son's website, asking fans to donate whatever they can for a funeral in his native Toronto.

"All these celebrities that are out there talking, tweeting about him," Schwartz said, "put your hand in your pocket. Ashton, cut the kid a check. Alyssa Milano, cut the family a check. His mother's going through radiation treatment."

Schwartz assures buyers on the auction site that every penny aside from eBay and PayPal fees is going to Haim's family for the funeral.

Wish I had a link to some of those auctions.

P.S. After watching those videos, I realize how much of a whore Corey Feldman's wife is. In the last episode, when Haim called Feldman, why the fuck was there a room full of people listening in on their conversation? Not only that, but they were smiling and laughing.

Yeah, i didnt really like his wife much. I thought she was quite stoic concerning Haim etc. Well i had the ebay auction link and watched the auction that night. There really wasnt much on there to buy. Unless they added more later and i didnt catch it. And the last time i looked there was only 2 items left and they were the most expensive of the collection $399.00. There was some shoes, a couple pairs of shorts, a taj mahul bath robe(if i spelled that right). There was a suit on there. There was a T-shirt of haims. A pair of pants. The cheapest of the collection was $45 and that was one of the shorts.

It's a shame that someone who was once considered a star cannot even afford their own funeral.

Oh, I heard Feldman's wife actually left him.

Are you serious? Damn, i havent heard that yet. Well, i dont understand this situation to a point. He cant afford his own funeral, but yet he just wrapped up a movie. Now in general from what i know about people making movies they get some dough up front and after and royalties. Plus i read where Milano and Kutcher cut checks to help out and you know they werent cheap with their money. And of course theres Feldman, and im guessing he helped out in some way to. So why bother with selling a few of his clothes? I watched the auction personally and it was all "Buy Now" with fixed prices. Selling those few items barely made it over $1200 or so. I dont see where it was worth it or the point really. And i been questioning Haims health lately as well. Something seems off to me. Perhaps he was hiding something concerning his own health? Maybe.
