Man drives off with officer's fingers stuck in door handle

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. â Police said a man pulled over during a traffic stop changed his mind about getting out of his sport utility vehicle and sped off while a Boynton Beach police officer's fingers were stuck in the door handle.
Officer Mark Sohn pulled a muscle in his leg trying to keep up with the SUV Wednesday night.
Boynton Beach police said the driver, Matthew Clark, appeared to be nervous and agitated. When Sohn asked Clark if he had any drugs in the SUV and asked him to step out of the vehicle, Clark agreed and began to open the door.
"For some reason, he changed his mind and he then closed the door," Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said. "But in the process, the officer's fingers got stuck in the door handle."
Slater said Sohn told Clark his fingers were stuck.
"He told him this numerous times," she said. "The driver put his foot on the gas, revved up the engine and then proceeded to drive."
According to the arrest report, Sohn was forced to run alongside the vehicle until he could free his fingers.
Police said Clark kept driving but crashed the SUV a short time later. Police said they found more than 200 oxycodone pills, marijuana and cocaine in and around the wrecked vehicle.
