I think I'm one of maybe a handful of horror fans who was really, really unimpressed with Hatchet. IMO the whole "old school American horror" hook was not only a fairly pretentious one (And I'm usually someone who hates that word with a passion), but wrong to boot; although 70s-80s American horror may not have been tame the way it is today, it usually seemed to have at least a bit more of a hook than "this is going to use more blood than other horror films". It just seemed like though they were "in it" for the right reasons, the filmmakers just didn't care about making something truly "special"...

If this does turn out to be a franchise, I hope the upcoming ones at least have a strongly-made cast of characters to back up the kills, guys who are more motivated than just hitting the killer once and scurrying away squealing every time x.X. More of the same "die, scurry, joke, die" just isn't going to hold water for long if you ask me, there needs to be suspense behind the death and better backstory behind the rest...

Yeah, to me, Hatchet was an okay movie... it was fun to watch and it does have it's moments but it's an average film. It doesn't surprise me that they want to turn it into a franchise. when you have a great lead villain they will always turn it into a franchise. Look at Jigsaw. Now... all we need is Victor and Jigsaw in space..... than Victor vs. Jigsaw.

I think Adam Green will show us how much he has grown as a filmmaker since Hatchet. Did Hatchet have issues? sure. Of course. It was his maiden voyage. Considering that fact, I would say it was pretty damned cool, and I HOPE Hatchet 2 will have that same indie, fresh, new-kid spirit with some more advanced technique and knowledge thrown into the mix.

Hatchet 2 trailer

I have not seen the first one. The 2nd seems promising, but they don't give much in the trailer.

I'd see it just for Danielle Harris.

I enjoyed Hatchet. If they want to make a franchise, go for it. Just don't let him go out into space.

3D anything sucks. Even if it is just Hatchet.

Hollywood producer: Let's make a serious drama about the Holocaust.

Hollywood agent: Sure. But it needs to have a hook.

Hollywood producer: How about 3D?

Hollywood agent: Sounds good to me.

Its not even a hook anymore its become a money gimmick by having it on everything and hardly any of it looks good.
