Bloody-Disgusting.com- We landed some huge news this weekend as we've confirmed that Christian E. Christiansen (say that ten times fast) is circling Dimension Films' big budget Hellraiser remake. As it was previously reported, the Victor Garcia low budget sequel, Revelations, was greenlit in order for the Weinstein Company to retain the rights (much like they did in 2005 with both Deader and Hellworld). Based on what I've heard from various people who have pitched their version of Hellraiser, the Weinsteins are looking for someone to make the franchise fitted for "teens" (super, super, super lame), thus making the director of Sony Screen Gems' The Roommate perfect for the gig. This leads beautifully into the news that the company hopes (nothing is signed) to land Amber Heard (Mandy Lane, Zombieland, The Stepfather) in the lead role

I said it on IMDb and I'll repeat it here:
"When I was a teenager (hey, I still am!), I wanted movies fitted for the general adult viewing public... does that make me smarter than most teenagers who need things fitted for them? Nah. That just makes me smarter than the Weinsteins who think that demographic comes before making a good film."
âThe Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audienceâs deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... Iâd better stop before I give myself nightmaresâ

I second that.
Personally, I think if they're going to do anything with Hellraiser, they need to do a balls-out NC-17 version of it, as disturbing and depraved as I imagine most things that come out of Barker's mind.
Yeah, that'll never happen. Just my two cents.

Do whatever they want to Hellraiser... I wasn't a fan of the original to begin with.

Okay, taking bets, who thinks it'll be all about the cenobites and will completely ditch the part with Julia Cotton killing people? Who thinks that the torture the new cenobites will inflict will turn out to be mostly mental? Who thinks the cenobites will just kill people instead of taking them to hell?

Clive Barker on the remake:
“Hello,my friends. I want to put on record that the flic out there using the word Hellraiser IS NO FUCKIN’ CHILD OF MINE!” ... “I have NOTHING to do with the fuckin’ thing. If they claim its from the mind of Clive Barker, it’s a lie. It’s not even from my butt-hole.”
I'm not sure of the source. My friend Tim Marquitz (another horror author) had this quote from Mr. Barker posted on his facebook wall. Terrible source, I know. But it was so funny that I had to share it with you all anyway.

I read this is what Barker was saying about Revelations. Not the remake. Since the trailer for Revelations just hit the web last week I figured it was true. And that's a direct quote from Barker's Twitter account.

If you didn't think Clive Barker had guts before, this should give him some points in your book.

What Clive Barker said about Revelations is amusing and not surprising. Who would want to be associated with a rushed, cobbled together mess that everyone sees as an abomination?
On the remake... how can you take a concept that gained inspiration via the author's experiences in S&M clubs and translate that to the teenie market? Pleasure and pain, indivisible and derived from mutilation... and they are giving this to those still classed as children? Ofcourse they won't. Which is why this is doomed to fail. The entire basis for the cenobites' existence is blown right out of the water. You can't have this element minus the physical torture. They are luring the likes of Frank Cotton - a sadist and a pervert who has run out of human thrills. He's not chasing that puzzle box for anything less than the ultimate sensory experience. You can't have that without an adult rating. Useless.

Lmao! Nice! Thanks, Chris! This cracked me up so much when I read it, and I'm glad to know what he was talking about when he said it.
Briggs: :alcohol:
And Lollie: You nailed it, hon. I don't know what any of these people are thinking. If they are. At all.

The whole "youthful approach" thing is just a rumor. The Hellraiser remake is supposedly a priority for Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer, the guys who did the My Bloody Valentine remake and Drive Angry. News about it has been sparse, but what they've said about it in interviews and written Q&As seems to imply that they fully intend on staying within that world Clive Barker created and expanding on it while pushing for a hard-R rating. Last I heard, they were trying to bring Barker on board at least as a creative consultant of sorts. At least that's the gist of what many movie sites have posted up until now.

If it is true I'm with DB - they are morons and that's the line drawn.
If it isn't true and they are planning on R rated, Clive Barker involved themes as you say Chris there is a glimmer of hope. A faint one however for me - as if there is no Doug Bradley I'm still calling it as a turd. I need them both to resurrect this franchise... or not at all.

It's funny how most horror remakes sugar coat it by saying they will be paying tribute to the original, how the remake will expanding on the worlds, or how they want to add more character and theme when in reality… the final product is garbage. They said that about My Bloody Valentine, they said it about Nightmare on Elm Street and they said it about Friday the 13th.

Was the My Bloody Valentine remake considered garbage? I had a lot of fun with it in 3D in theaters. So much fun that I never bothered picking it up on DVD or Blu-ray because I knew it wouldn't be the same. I consider films by Farmer and Lussier to be a huge guilty pleasure. I'm not exactly sure how that would translate in the Hellraiser world or if Halloween III will be worthwhile in the least, but they at least sound like their hearts are in the right place.
