BojanglesScream 4 is not going to be happening. Instead, a Scream remake will be happening.

Really? This soon?

Quote:While we broke the news way back in January that Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette were made offers to return in Scream 4, currently being penned by Kevin Williamson (Scream 2, Scream 3), It looks as if we were right about everything but one thing.... Entertainment Weekly confirms our breaking news adding that Williamson is instead scripting a reboot of the franchise for Dimension Films, instead of the third sequel. They also confirm the news that this begins a brand new trilogy. What they fail to mention is that Neve Campbell was also made an offer and that "this will be a younger version of the Scream movies," as we previously reported. Old news, with a new twist. Scream remake. Shocking? Nope. Now talk...

Ummmmm, ewwwwww! A remake? Of Scream? WHY? I mean, didn't we see enough of Scream in the 90's? The damn mask, and spoofs, and movies that were like scream, and Neve Campbell? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It IS pathetic. Not because I have any particular love for the Scream franchise, but because, well, WHY?Punch

Scream was one of the over-rated shittiest films I have ever personally saw!
It's not even worth the Remake.... and I love Remakes!

I'm sorry, my disgust all instalntly turned to utter laughter Laughing-satan . BURN HOLLYWOOD, BURN!
“The Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audience’s deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... I’d better stop before I give myself nightmares”

For it's time, it was really really an original idea, and kinda fun. But the idea wore thin VERY quickly.
Hell, it's by Wes Kraven. I give it points just for that.

But any kind of remake. Makes me wanna squat.Flip

Man, I really hope we don't see some remakes popping up of I Know What You Did Last Summer and Urban Legends.

I liked the original Scream, honestly. I just can't believe they're already remaking this one.

I really can't put in words the idiocy, I just CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT! XD

I did hear something pretty promising though, what if this is going to be for remakes what the original was for horror in general? Confusedexdev:

I doubt it. Horror isn't in the same slump it was in during the 90's. We all already see that type of plot coming, too. Not to mention, I highly doubt a remake of Scream could beat some of the better remakes I have seen.

No what I'm talking about is a self-aware remake, where the characters realize they're in a situation very similar to "that old movie" Scream XD

I don't know. Maybe, but I don't really see it working out for them. I HOPE it does, though.

I could care less if this film makes it or not.
I hate Scream. I thought they tried to make it just like every other slasher.
But in their case, it failed....

EXCLUSIVE: Wes Craven dishes on 'Scream 4'

Wes Craven dishes on 'Scream 4'

It's fair to call Wes Craven, the director of A Nightmare on Elm Street and the Scream series, something of a horror movie icon. A remake of his first film, 1972's highly-controversial The Last House On The Left, is out in cinemas this Friday. While speaking to Craven about the new Last House (more on that soon), we quizzed him about the future of the Scream franchise.

What's the status with Scream 4 at the moment? Are we going to see you direct it?
"Bob Weinstein (The Weinstein Company co-chairman) has talked to me, he's interested in me directing it. I had a brief conversation with Kevin [Williamson], I know that Kevin is writing. What I've said to Bob is I'm not closed to it, I'm not open to it, I'll be perfectly happy to read a script and tell him what I think. That's where it's at and I'm not expecting a script until August. I don't know what the premise is or anything."

Do you know what form it's taking? The word 'reboot' has been used.
"I don't think it's a reboot and Kevin, when he talked to me, said, 'Remember, it's not just Scream 4, it's Scream 5 and 6.' So I guess he has a trilogy in mind."

It's looking like the Arquettes are coming back. Do you know if Neve Campbell will be returning?
"I've been told, and I don't think they'll mind if I say this, the deals on David Arquette and Courteney are virtually set. I believe everybody else will be new."

You satirised the horror genre with the original Scream trilogy. Is there a danger that it'll either lose its edge or fall into self-parody the more films you make?
"There are a host of dangers in making more films. We have a saying in the United States, 'Jump the shark'. You don't want to do that, you don't want to drive it into the ground. You're avoiding those kind of dangers, hopefully, making the kind of film that has self-awareness from the characters where they're talking about film. I'm sure you can run that into the ground very quickly. I don't have a clue what Kevin is writing. He might be completely going around me, I don’t know."

Were you flattered or annoyed by the Scary Movie series poking fun at Scream?
"I laughed but it was also annoying because somebody used my very shots and I didn't have any financial participation in it! It was less than a year after we'd finished Scream 3 that that came out. You just have to keep moving in Hollywood because somebody will be right on your heels making parodies of what you've just done."

This is the big studios latching on to a moneymaking trend and slamming it into the ground. It is the equivalent of a corporation buying a successful little mom and mom and then destroying the essence by trying to change and multiply before anyone has had a chance to understand its core.

Now this is where I think we have differing opinions; when a movie is great, where can a remake go but down? When a movie is flawed, remaking it can correct those flaws and make it something awesome, IMO.

Still, I tend to agree since the people making this film do not seem to be out to correct flaws but rather repackage and resell the whole thing Tongue

You do have a point there. It looks like they're just out to repackage it. However, I do think there is ALWAYS room for improvement. They could make a Scream remake better than the original. I still think it's a lame idea, though. I guess we'll see if it's any good once it's released, though.
