The movie producers behind a planned remake of 1968 horror classic Rosemary's Baby have dropped plans for a new film.
Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been working on a way to bring the tale, based on the 1967 novel by Ira Levin, back to the big screen.
But the pair has been forced to admit they haven't been able to conceive a fresh angle which would make a new version credible.
Form tells Collider.com, "We went down that road and we even talked to the best writers in town and it feels like it might not be do-able. We couldn't come up with something where it felt like it was relevant and we could add something to it other than what it was, so we're now not going to be doing that film."

I agree it was perfection, but this was a film I actually wanted to see remade.
I mean because you can't watch the same film, over & over, & over.
It gets kinda old. And I think Rosemary's Baby is damn GOOD film!
I would have loved to see it remade in all its glory!

I agree, somewhat.
The only remake that sucked that I know of, is Halloween.
But other then that we need Remakes...
Life is better with variety, not just old, but new!

Honestly? What about the new Fog or The Hitcher? The new Wicker Man? In my opinion and a lot of others' those were awful, and several other remakes were very mediocre, especially compared to the originals. Watching a film many times can get boring, but when watching a remake isn't enjoyable, it's irritating.
I like variety too, and there are certainly some movies that could be remade better... But when a remake does suck, it sort of closes the door on possibilities for old continuities; A bad remake doesn't tarnish the original, though it can devalue it sometimes. Variety, IMO, should be more about new ideas than reviving old ones.
âThe Fright Night remake is a film which taps into the audienceâs deepest rooted fears, such as those of vampires throwing motorcycles at them. I dread the thought of a vampire throwing a refrigerator or a deskjet printer or... Iâd better stop before I give myself nightmaresâ

Hell Briggsy, there Are NO NEW IDEAS in Hollywood, or anywhere else that I have noticed, so the way it will go is that people will just have to stop making movies. Hehehehehe. IDK, maybe Drag Me To Hell is an original one, or is it too much Thinner for everyone?

Actually...
Rob Zombie, has kinda ruined Halloween...
I mean I can't even watch it without cringing, because I know how much he tarnished those films.
But yea your right, The Hitcher Remake did suck balls...
But as for Remakes... I think we need them IMO.
P.S. Accidently clicked on your post Briggs, sorry man.
@Loki - I like the original too... but I love Remakes, because they freshen things up!

Thank God they scrapped this. There have been very few remakes worth the film they were printed on. There are original ideas in Hollywood, but until we as consumers tell Hollywood to fuck off, we will continue to get them.
I am a huge FThe13th fan, but the remake was lame. If you are trying to convince yourself that the new NOES remake is any good, you are smoking better shit than I am!
Some movies should just be left alone, and thankfully, one of the all time classics has!

Whoa, whoa, whoa! No disrespect Friday the 13th, but you stepped a little over the line. As an FX artist who has worked in the the industry for over 4 years and a journalist in the horror genre for 10 years, you kind of just insulted me. Let's take everything you said point by point:
Quote:Friday The 13 Remake was lame...
I disagree, sorry..
I think your just saying that because your one of those people
who has to hate every Remake. Am I right?
Cool to disagree, I can respect that. You think I am saying that because I am one of those people who has to hate every remake? Are you right?
NO! YOU ARE NOT RIGHT!
There have been a FEW good remakes. Not many. The Fthe13th remake was lame because of several reasons. They took the first four movies of the original series and took what they thought were the best elements and mashed everything together (and not even in a good way). There was no gripping drama and you couldn't get behind any of the characters because they all came across as douchebags. The kills were unimaginative and pretty much bloodless. What was really introduced in this remake/reboot that made it any better than the original? Was it the group of kids that went to Camp Crystal Lake to find the amazing stash of pot growing out there? Or maybe was it the dumbass who was selling the pot that was talking to a store dummy about their sexual experience? Or maybe, just maybe it was the girlfriend who goes off with another guy, comes back to find her boyfriend fucking another chick and does not have one cross word to say about it? What is better about any of that?
As far as good remakes, I thought the Texas Chainsaw remake was ok. I didn't love it or hate it. The Halloween remake was actually pretty decent as was My Bloody Valentine. The Hills Have Eyes remake wasn't all that bad. But on the same token, the Psycho remake a couple of years ago was horrible and The Amityville Horror was marginal at best as was the Omen.
All of these films are considered classics in our genre. Unless you are going to make one shit kicking movie, YOU SHOULD NOT REMAKE CLASSICS!
Either way that movie was not fucking awesome!
Quote:It wasn't the classic Friday The 13th but it was awesome!
And to be honest with you.. it was better then the original...

You said it yourself. Classic. And while I respect your opinion, awesome is not the adjective I would use for the Friday the 13th remake. Any movie that drops of 80.4% in its second week does not qualify as awesome (that stat comes from Box Office Mojo and the link is Friday the 13th (2009) (2009) - Weekend Box Office Results so you can verify my numbers). Did have a great opening weekend because they pimped it like a whore, but the fans saw it and told their friends what a piece of shit it was.
And again, I ask how was this better than the original? I am one of the biggest horror movie fans you will find on this site and of the original series, but this was just a bad movie. As far as Jason not killing in the first movie, I know. The story was not about Jason, but his mother taking revenge for his death. In that vein, the 2009 version is not a remake.
Quote:Also the TCM Remake was a fucking BLAST!
Blast is not the word I would use, but not a horrible remake.
Quote:I just named to awesome Remakes? so I don't get all the complaining and whining on Remakes..
I don't see any complaining or whining, I just answered your questions with facts. If you would like more facts, please feel free to ask me, because I appear to have the knowledge you lacked to look up. And by the way, name TWO ok remakes does not make the remake genre great....
Till next time's lesson...
REST IN PEACE

Your the dedman, I get that. I'm glad you know your films. So do I.
But as for Remakes sucking, I disagree here.. sorry.
Friday The 13th Remake was awesome period.
And as for it just being a mashup, I still disagree.
I mean come on wtf you think all of the Friday The 13th movies were about?!
Sex, Drugs, Weed, and more Sex!
I know it's your opinion but still...
it's annoying how when one person decides they hate a Remake,
everyone else has to follow in their league.
I understand some Classics may seem to not need a Remakes, but I disagree.
And yea I said 'Classic', so what?
A Remake on a Classic film should be a damn compliment!
People think that Remakes are harshly saying that the originals sucked,
But that's not really the case.
The case is these films are fucking awesome!
And a Remake can help boost, and throw these originals into
the hands of people who have never even heard of them before.
I don't mean to get your feathers in a tiff, but I love Remakes!
Don't get me wrong I like classics too!
It's just Remakes actually help the originals gain momentum.
TCM - awesome, F13 - awesome, Halloween - Okay in a sense that Rob Zombie added his own feel to it.
Hills Have Eyes - Not bad. My Bloody Valentine - Another good example of a Remake!
So by no means am I hating on the originals, I just feel we should give Remakes a chance.
Don't go judging a film because it's a Remake before you even get to watch it.
Judging films because of that is pointless, and it ruins Horror.

(Update) The movie was said to be scrapped.
But all in all it may still be made.
I heard there is a slim chance.
I kinda hope for the Remake on this one actually

I'm not getting into the remake vs. original debate.
It would be hard to find a good actress to play Rosemary. There's something so great about classic movies. Maybe it's just because the movies that sucked usually don't make it to people to watch 30 years after they're made. So, any classic that they've transferred to different formats must have been either 1. really good or 2. had a huge name actor(ress) in it.

I agree, it would be hard to find a women to play Rosemary.
I just think Remakes deserve a chance.

Remakes can be good. I try to think of them as completely seperate movies. That way, you get a different POV.
I can't think of a single female actress that could convincing play innocent like Mia Farrow did. I think she had this lovely naivety that made it really disturbing when she ate raw meat.
