Whoa, whoa, whoa! No disrespect Friday the 13th, but you stepped a little over the line. As an FX artist who has worked in the the industry for over 4 years and a journalist in the horror genre for 10 years, you kind of just insulted me. Let's take everything you said point by point:
Cool to disagree, I can respect that. You think I am saying that because I am one of those people who has to hate every remake? Are you right?
NO! YOU ARE NOT RIGHT!
There have been a FEW good remakes. Not many. The Fthe13th remake was lame because of several reasons. They took the first four movies of the original series and took what they thought were the best elements and mashed everything together (and not even in a good way). There was no gripping drama and you couldn't get behind any of the characters because they all came across as douchebags. The kills were unimaginative and pretty much bloodless. What was really introduced in this remake/reboot that made it any better than the original? Was it the group of kids that went to Camp Crystal Lake to find the amazing stash of pot growing out there? Or maybe was it the dumbass who was selling the pot that was talking to a store dummy about their sexual experience? Or maybe, just maybe it was the girlfriend who goes off with another guy, comes back to find her boyfriend fucking another chick and does not have one cross word to say about it? What is better about any of that?
As far as good remakes, I thought the Texas Chainsaw remake was ok. I didn't love it or hate it. The Halloween remake was actually pretty decent as was My Bloody Valentine. The Hills Have Eyes remake wasn't all that bad. But on the same token, the Psycho remake a couple of years ago was horrible and The Amityville Horror was marginal at best as was the Omen.
All of these films are considered classics in our genre. Unless you are going to make one shit kicking movie, YOU SHOULD NOT REMAKE CLASSICS!
Either way that movie was not fucking awesome!
You said it yourself. Classic. And while I respect your opinion, awesome is not the adjective I would use for the Friday the 13th remake. Any movie that drops of 80.4% in its second week does not qualify as awesome (that stat comes from Box Office Mojo and the link is Friday the 13th (2009) (2009) - Weekend Box Office Results so you can verify my numbers). Did have a great opening weekend because they pimped it like a whore, but the fans saw it and told their friends what a piece of shit it was.
And again, I ask how was this better than the original? I am one of the biggest horror movie fans you will find on this site and of the original series, but this was just a bad movie. As far as Jason not killing in the first movie, I know. The story was not about Jason, but his mother taking revenge for his death. In that vein, the 2009 version is not a remake.
Blast is not the word I would use, but not a horrible remake.
I don't see any complaining or whining, I just answered your questions with facts. If you would like more facts, please feel free to ask me, because I appear to have the knowledge you lacked to look up. And by the way, name TWO ok remakes does not make the remake genre great....
Till next time's lesson...
